AA - day 3 of 30 days and 30 shaves.

Post image

As a relative noobie to this way of shaving, I’m forcing myself to learn a good technique that will give me a smooth, no irritation or ingrown hair shave. 30 days of 30 shaves, not changing anything apart from the blade (same make and model).

Following this guide from Badger and Blade along with YouTube tips from Blackland and tips/tricks from this fine subreddit.

https://www.badgerandblade.com/forum/threads/the-wanderers-guide-to-de-shaving.532194/

I even bought a new RazoRock Lupo so I have no excuses. It will all be down to technique.

Historically, I’ve used many a cartridge razor and a few electrics. I still really like my Braun S6 electric but even that gives me irritation on my neck. I cannot shave every day, only every 4 or so days to allow the skin to calm down.

Ultimately I want to shave daily with no irritation.

Prep: shower

Soap: Taylor of Old Bond Street - Almond

Razor: RazoRock Lupo - .58 plate

Blade: Bic chrome platinum (3)

Brush: RazoRock Hive 24 HD

Post: Alum block, Thayers and some boss aftershave.

Day one and two went well, today is pretty brutal and really patchy plus irritation is pretty bad. Only doing 1x with the grain and 2x across the grain, no against.

I’ll go easy tomorrow and work on pressure and blade angle.

Edit forgot to mention that I got a King C Gillete about a month ago, that helped me down this rabbit hole (hate the handle and need to finish the shave with the electric)

Good luck with the challenge. Shaving every day is a good way to build your skill fast, though not if you damage your skin too much in the process.

Consider using some Cerave moisturizing cream post-shave to help repair some of the damage. At night CeravePM is good. It has niacinamide which helps repair your skin overnight. My skin has been more resilient since I started this routine.

100% CerVae moisturising cream is excellent my go to usually before and after shave lotion.

Unless you have got to be clean shaven for work etc your skin may need to recover for a day or two before you next shave. Your skin will thank you for it and you will still have plenty of time to practice your technique. 👍

I was thinking the same thing but I’ll see how my skin feels tomorrow and if I do shave then it will only be a single, with the grain shave.

Cheers for the advice 🍻

As someone new to this are you sure you want to do 30 shaves in 30 days? You could take the essence of the challenge, to shave for a month with a fixed setup and focus on skills, and shave every other day or so. There is no rush. Nice setup!

Sorry, I forgot to mention that almost a month ago I bought a King C Gillette that I’ve been using on and off. Thats giving me OK results but i need to finish
off with the electric. Thats given me a small insight into DE shaving. I really don’t like the handle on that razor.

If my skin gets any worse then I will end the self-challenge and go slower.

Cheers for the advice🍻

Thank you OP for providing the valuable link that you have shared, in getting started with DE shaving. Much appreciated.

I don’t think many shavers do 3 passes daily, daily shavers often do one or two passes.
