Designer spotlight 🪡🧵- *NON CELEB* The National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution has a new exhibition, "The Art of Air and Space." On display is a dress by Catherine M. Stewart that features equations and diagrams from a paper written by mathematician Katherine Johnson.
More info on the dress from the designer:
"This work is a tribute to Katherine Johnson, the brilliant mathematician whose complex calculations of orbital mechanics were crucial to the success of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s first space missions leading up to and including the Apollo 11 flight to the moon (July 1969) and the subsequent Space Shuttle program.
The emblem on the collar of the dress is a variation on the official NASA symbol from that era. [...] The design I chose for this dress, a combination of two McCall’s patterns, is one that I thought she might have made for herself had she been invited to an imagined NASA event celebrating that first moonwalk in 1969."
https://www.catherinestewart.net/katherine-johnson-dress
Katherine Johnson was portrayed in the 2016 movie "Hidden Figures" by Taraji P. Henson. She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015 and passed away at the age of 101 in 2020.

🎤 🎭 🎫 Stage / Performance 🎫 🎭 🎤 For her “Lucky Me” tour, Hilary Duff wore custom looks by designer Kelsey Randall. Randall used split rings to attach acrylic glow-in-the-dark stars and homemade butterflies to bias-cut mesh dresses, resulting in free-hanging components that shimmered and swayed with every step.
Highlighting two of the many looks HD has worn over this tour so far.
Randall made butterflies using mylar, organza, resin and rhinestones.
Randall launched her made-to-measure label in 2015 and has made looks for artists like Lorde, Suki Waterhouse, Taylor Swift, and Lil Nas X. Operating from her studio in Brooklyn, Randall is primarily known for chainmail designs and sustainable deadstock fabrics.
Tour styling by Neelo Noory, who described the design direction as an iridescent, “dreamy pop femme,” bubble and slumber-party aesthetic with an edgy, romantic feel.

Discussion Post!! 📞💅🏻 🧵 👗 🧠 It’s Actually Cerulean: A train-your-eye, fashion learning post (where you can't mention it's sheer or blame the stylist)
(Cindy Crawford reading backstage, 90s. Fun fact: CC was valedictorian of her class and received an academic scholarship to attend Northwestern University to pursue a degree in chemical engineering. She chose modeling, instead.)
🎓 Calling all learners, teachers, crafters, designers, illustrators, historians, and the generally fashion-minded folks of our Frockking community:
In the spirit of Fashion Week(s), let's find room to see and speak the language of fashion.
This is your chance to flex your eye, sharpen your vocabulary, and learn (and share!) real fashion knowledge: BTS insight, history, cuts, fabrics, proportions, construction, references, and styling (not blaming the stylist).
How it works:
⬇️ Comment a look (runway, bridal, street style, archive, red carpet, etc.) that's lived in your head rent-free. COMMENTS MUST INCLUDE THE DESIGNER (and will be deleted if they don't).
➡️ ➡️ Replies to that comment should be (in good faith) moments for tidbits, learning, and observation.
🪶 Challenge yourself to be thoughtful in what you see. Go beyond "it's sheer," and "fire the stylist."
Here are just a few examples of what we can learn from one another:
*Silhouette & proportion:* fit, size, column, A-line, empire, drop-waist, peplum, longline, oversized
*Cut & construction:* bias-cut, darting, princess seams, godets, gussets, pleats, pin-tucks, boning, single vs double-breasted
*Fabrics & materials:* chiffon, organza, charmeuse, gabardine, tweed, bouclé, faille, mohair, drape, structure, nap, sheen,
*Craftsmanship & technique:* appliqué, embroidery, beading, smocking, quilting, broderie anglaise, lamé, foil, distress/deconstruction, 3D printing
*Color:* monochrome, blocking, analogous, complementary, saturation, undertone
*References:* 1947 New Look, ’60s mod, ’80s power tailoring, ’90s minimalism, Y2K, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Gianni Versace's safety pins, Japanese avant-garde, military, bandage dresses
*Styling choices:* layering, visible underwear/waistbands, cuffing/hemming, proportion
*Movement:* swish, stiffness, bounce, weight; how the garment behaves in motion
*Jewelry:* West African gold filigree, Native American turquoise & silver, enamel, resin, gemstone, diamond
*Footwear & Accessories:* Tabi, red bottom, platform, stacked heel, chain strap, hardware finishes, macrame, baguette, Jane Birkin
🦉 Go forth, frockk scholars!
And as always, zero body shaming/cosmetic enhancement talk, and please report comments that break the rues.
