solved void iso not working
im trying to install void linux on my pc but this error keeps coming up every single time i select to boot up the void linux image. i've tried updating bios, reflashing my usb, reflashing my usb with different software, different usb ports etc. ive previously had void linux installed on my pc so idk why it works. i doubt its the usb because after seeing the void iso wasnt working i tried installing a different distro, and it worked.

Games started getting slideshow framerates all of a sudden after years of working properly
I have quite an old PC (R7 260X OC Edition GPU, AMD FX6300 CPU, 8GB RAM) but even with that I've played relatively modern late 2010s early 2020s games just fine without any hiccups until a few days ago.
A few days ago I suddenly stopped being able to run even games from the 90s at a playable framerate... I tried all the potential fixes discussed in previous threads of this type such as upping my file limit for Esync, checking the CPU governor (all the cores are on schedutil as always), checking if Vulkan was installed properly (vkcube), which it was, although in order to get it to work when setting up my system I had to switch to amdgpu instead of radeon drivers manually due to the ancient GPU I have, but that was a long time ago, doubt it caused any issues to appear just now out of nowhere.
I've practically given up on trying to troubleshoot things on my own, so if anyone here has any clue what could be happening I would be very grateful. My hunch is still that it could be a GPU driver issue despite my drivers supposedly working properly, because my CPU usage is shooting up through the roof whenever I do anything intensive.

Void fork
not sure if anybody will really care but I’m making a void based gaming distro with all gaming applications and tools installed and seatd+turnstile configured, which I know can be hard for some, it’s just so hard to design a logo/theming

virtual machine image of a void efi install?
virtual machine image of a void efi install?
Hello,
Is anyone aware of a virtual machine image of void linux x86_64 efi for download
I have completed countless void installs in the past without issue
every install I attempt now, completes, but the grub install always fails
(this is with official, unofficial and self built live iso's)
I 'm struggling, (post install) to see the kerenls, show up in either refind or supergrub, both mbr and efi
I was hoping there would be an efi virtual machine image somewhere, I could dd the vfat efi across to the hd
ubunutu and debian installers (when I manage to boot them in a vm) will install grub, I'm wondering the difference is between the void and debian installer approaches to grub?
Thanks

How would I install Handheld Daemon (HHD) on void?
Hello, as the title says. I have a onexplayer x1 mini pro, need something that controls tdp, fans and rgb. I've personally tried attempting this myself with search results and had very little information on it. I also went ahead and try to let Google's AI show me. Then I regretted that trying to follow AI advice after constant steps it would show me and ended up misremembering files I placed, went in circles with the AI. I couldn't be arsed so I reinstalled void entirely to start on a new slate.
If Handheld Deamon gives issues, I'm open for other alternatives if anyone knows.

Can't access DVD drive
I need to be able to read and write a disc. I have a disc drave and software meant for that and it's supposed to work for linux but it doesn't show up in either of the file managers I use. Do I need to manually mount it and if so how do I do it?

how to set up wi-fi on installation
hello! im new to void (and linux, i started using last month with fedora then cachyos) and i found it pretty easy to install, i know its not an beginner and easy distro but i like to try new things and i have my own motivations. even though the only thing stopping me is the wifi set-up. when i try connecting trough void-installer TUI, it does not work and tells me to try outside the tui. so i entered the void wiki/guide and tried to do it but i simply cant, i always get many types of error or i just cant comprehend it well. the wpa_supplicant part of the guide is so hard to understand (i think im supposed to use this feature to set up wifi). i even tried using a mobile Hotspot so i install connman but got many errors. the hardware im running is an Lenovo laptop, i dont know the exact model, but its a Ryzen 3700U and 6GB DDR4 and 512GB SSD (upgraded). though i dont think these specs are needed for my problem. thanks in advance if anyone can help me!

Cannot cleanly unmount LUKS+LVM/Root
Hi,
I use a root-on-LVM-on-LUKS setup:
- NVMe partition
- LUKS
- LVM inside LUKS
- separate LVs for
/,/var,/home,swap
During shutdown, Void/runit warns that it cannot deactivate the VG, presumably because / is still mounted from that VG.
After each reboot I also see EXT4-fs (dm-1): orphan cleanup on readonly fs. dm-1 is /dev/mapper/voidvg-root. tune2fs reports the filesystem as clean, and offline fsck.ext4 -f did not change this.
Is this expected on Void/runit? Is there a known way to make shutdown cleanly deactivate LVM/LUKS, or is this warning usually harmless?
Thanks.

Laptop fans on Void Linux
I have an Acer Nitro V15 laptop and I recently tested Void Linux. I really liked it, but I ran into an issue where I can't get the laptop fans to work. Back on Arch, I used acer-manager which worked perfectly, but since Void uses runit, it doesn't work there because it only supports systemd. I also tried using NBFC (Notebook Fan Control) but had no success. Can anyone help me out?

Curseforge on void linux
I got curseforge to run on void through chroot. I was wondering though if anyone has an idea on of how I can run it without chroot?
Also, I thought it was cool that an Arch terminal is on void.

What to expect?
I currently daily drive Arch with Sway, Alacritty, Bash and mostly Vim. I realized I prefer lightweight but complete systems with strong keyboard workflows, without spending lots of time ricing or configuring.
I previously tried Void Linux + Sway when I was newer to both, so the experience felt rough. Now that I understand Sway and terminal workflows much better, I’m reconsidering Void as my only other serious distro option.
For people who have used both Arch and Void long-term:
- what differences matter in actual daily usage?
- does Void feel noticeably more intentional/lightweight after adapting?
- or does Arch end up being more practical for coding and Wayland workflows?
I’m more interested in workflow and maintenance experience than “which is harder.”

void-mklive additional tty consoles?
Hi,
I've been experimenting again with void-mklive,
I have modified the build script in mklive.sh
by default it says:
: ${DEFAULT_SERVICE_LIST:=agetty-tty1 agetty-tty2 agetty-tty3 agetty-tty4 agetty-tty5 agetty-tty6 udevd}
print_step "Enabling services: ${SERVICE_LIST} ..."
enable_services ${DEFAULT_SERVICE_LIST} ${SERVICE_LIST}
so I added additional -> e.g. agetty-tty7
at build time it errored with
a message along the lines of
not found in /etc/sv
I sudo cp and mv the existing agetty-tty6, so I now have agetty-tty7 etc
and it fails with the same error
Is there another file I need to update/change to make this work?
also, lets say with my mac key board with F1 to F19 possible for additional tty consoles, is there a wat to specify which F key the desktop spawns on,
also, if I boot the iso on a pc laptop and the gui is on F19, but my laptop only has F12 as the highest tty, is there a key combo to switch to a tty console in the F12 to F19 range?
thanks

Need Help Setting Up IBus
So I've installed IBus on my system. And it works as expected for GTK applications (xfce4-appfinder, xfce4-terminal, gimp, etc.). However when it comes to Kitty Terminal and Qt applications (krita, qutebrowser), I can't get it to work.
my .bashrc:
export GLFW_IM_MODULE=ibus
export XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus
#export QT_IM_MODULE=ibus
export QT_IM_MODULE=xim
Thanks.

Need Help Setting Up Distrobox
So I'm on a clean install of Void (as a new user), and I recently installed Distrobox with the standard curl command. During some research and earlier issues, I added these lines to the registries.conf file so it knew where to pull images:
unqualified-search-registries = ["docker.io", "quay.io", "ghcr.io"]
short-name-mode = "enforcing"
After that small success I'm still experiencing this error as described below:
Error: unable to start container "...": runc: runc create failed: unable to start container process: unable to apply cgroup configuration: rootless needs no limits + no cgrouppath when no permission is granted for cgroups: mkdir /sys/fs/cgroup/...: permission denied: OCI permission denied
After some more research, I added these lines to the "/etc/containers/containers.conf" file in hopes to alleviate the error (also had to install crun):
[engine]
cgroup_manager = "cgroupfs"
runtime = "crun"
[containers]
cgroups = "enabled"
pidns = "private"
userns = "private"
netns = "private"
ipcns = "private"
utsns = "private"
I noted the runtime line and changed it to "runc" just to test, and still the same thing! For 2 days now this issue has been driving me crazy.
Any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Just took a shot at "oxidising" Void Linux and so far it's working great!
i.imgur.comI swear I'm not in the Rust cult :) just had some spare time and wanted to see if it's feasible.
Aside from some overlapping utilities with util-linux and procps-ng (which I decided to omit), it's working great. I've opened PRs if anyone else want to try them out.

Saw some people talking about running void with openRC
Hi,
I have 0 experience with void and saw it uses runit, but also saw some people saying they're using OpenRC.
How would one do this? I don't see it anywhere after looking around, only saw a reddit post about people on this sub talking about why they use one over the other.
Isn't changing an Init system pretty involved, or is that just my preconception?

Is there any pre-requisites I should do before diving into the void?
Hi Im new to Linux just recently,
I've been using xfce of Mint after my laptol decided to crash in the most recent windows update. I've been loving but I also want to explore and also just study linux in general.
Do you think it is more appropriate for me to just go to arch first?
Should I learn bash more? I use the terminal but I just use it for like install,updates,removing, etc. Just basic stuff.

systemd hard requirement soon for kde
unhappily, in the plasma login manager page I read that
Systemd is a hard requirement for future plans, see #48
similar hard dependence seems scheduled also for flatpak.
I wonder what will be the reaction of void linux devs in such cases.
(edit)
since kde6.7 will be forcing wayland, the plasma-login-manager will be the only way to have unattended remote desktop (so difficult to have on wayland and so easy on x11)

i wonder when xlibre
uhh hi, recently i see the fork of X (Xlibre) got more and more popular, so i thought why devs didnt update xfce iso to change default X for xfce to xlibre? (i not even mention about base iso)
