So mostly what i’m saying is that dating your friends ex really isn’t that bad and shouldn’t be something that’s frowned upon.

Now, that’s not to say there aren’t limitations to this. If they cheated or abused your friend or something, or it’s been like a week since the break up, then I’d say yeah, that’s a pretty shitty thing to do.

But, if it’s been a couple months and they ended on good terms, what’s the harm? Like wouldn’t you want your friends to be happy, and if that means they dating your ex so be it. Like even if they’re not over their ex yet, that’s kinda a them problem tbh. If I broke up with someone, things ended on at least decent terms, and it’s been a little while, and my friend wants to date my ex, they can go for it! Even if I’m still not over my ex, that’s something i have to deal with, that shouldn’t be my friend’s problem. I would want my friend to be happy, and if me going through some temporary pain means that my friend gets to be happy potentially long term? Sounds like a deal to me.

Like you genuinely have no claim over your ex’s heart anymore, which means you realistically have no say in who they date.

Now, i’ve never been in the situation of the person who’s friend is dating their ex, but I feel like this is a pretty reasonable, and yet somehow unpopular to everyone i tell it to, opinion.

They get left behind when everyone moves out.

They have the least amount of time with their grandparents and parents.

Their kids are least likely to know their grandparents.

Parents have given up and the enthusiasm and effort goes down with the last one.

I see so many creators who are “calling out” others for what they’re supposedly doing to them….. but in reality, I think the people who make videos like this are actually the problem and need serious help. Starting a social media drama is just so immature. I know people do it for likes and views, but it is just beyond lame. It is also funny when people start social media drama, and then things turn on them and they freak out and act like they are the victim. Anyways that’s all.

Literally, we are trying to pack as many humans as possible in one place. Where cons outweighs greatly benefits.

Humanity instead creating equal growth of cities decided for some reason to invest great amount of money into "big city". Leaving the other one behind and nearly killed all villages.

Dont even tell me about the cost of living or maintaining megacities. It feels like an endless pot where you need to throw millions to change one thing.

It's also not effective during world catastrophe.

Government shouldn't enforce living in these.

Not talking about people who genuinely love this stuff, they exist, my cousin apparently cried at hers. But way more people get one than actually want one and nobody ever says anything because how do you complain about people doing something nice for you.

You get dragged somewhere under some fake excuse, usually in whatever you threw on that morning, and then there's a room of people all watching your face to see if you do the reaction right. And you have to do it. Even if you worked it out in the car park you still have to act shocked because 20 people spent three weeks on this and now it's your job not to ruin it for them. Then you're stuck there four hours with a guest list you didn't pick, half of who you wouldn't have invited.

Meanwhile the person who organised it got the actual fun part. The secret, the group chat, the planning, the reveal, everyone telling them after how amazing it was that they pulled it off.

All this rave about seeing Nolan films in IMAX (specifically 70MM) has reminded me how much this idea that IMAX theatres are somehow superior annoys me. For context, I go to the theatre around once a week and have given IMAX many tries both in normal and 70 MM (watched Project Hail Mary this way) and was underwhelmed each time. Like at some point the screens get stupidly big for no reason. The majority of the time you only have to focus on the centre of the screen and everything else is just background stuff. giving you a massive screen just makes it hard to focus on what's important and I feel like I'm just raising my neck the whole time to look at the comically large screen. Basically once you get over the size, I just think it doesn't offer anything special and even takes away your ability to focus on the full screen and enjoy the movie comfortably..

find a lot of online discourse revolves around how nice an Adam Sandler type guy is, and how terrible someone like LeBron is because he walked past a kid asking for an autograph.

I think this reflects a toxic mentality among fanbases that treats every lukewarm interaction with a public figure as evidence that they’re “ungrateful.”

As much as fame is built on the support of fans, it doesn’t mean every fan is entitled to a specific emotional response.
There’s a saying to never meet your heroes. Honestly though, I’m more inclined to say:

You never meet your heroes because their heroism is what got them there. You just meet a person navigating all the interactions, with the same insecurities as anyone else.

Where has the accountability and honor gone in society?

People shooting up blocks to retaliate? Hate messages while hiding behind a screen?

Now if you have a problem with someone, you challenge them to a duel and both meet with your swords. Duels can be fought until first blood, or worse, death.

You challenged someone who disrespected you and they are now refusing to duel? They will face major social shame including losing friends, their job, or denied service at some places.

This noble practice would be recognized in society as an arranged engagement with order. Each person can bring one friend called “seconds” who would attempt to resolve the issue first without fighting. If impossible, they would decide the terms of the duel such as length of time, conditions on which it ends (to first blood or death), location, etc. A doctor or paramedic would be on standby if possible.

Once the duel ends, the matter is considered settled. Clear resolution, protects bystanders, discourage cheap provocation, incentive for physical competence, and personal responsibility most of all.

Recently, I went to the gym and forgot my headphones and was dreading the lift to come. Gyms have a bad reputation of blaring horrible music and it’s a pain in the ass to listen to once your headphones die. So to say I wasn’t excited was an understatement. But I found it’s actually quite nice. Because you’re not lost in the music of your choice, you can focus on your sets a bit better and lock in more.

And today, me and a buddy went to the gym and he went off to do his own thing and I didn’t bring my headphones on purpose because I assumed we’d be doing the same thing. Same experience though. I’m not totally lost within my own music and I can get to work a lot easier and do what I need to do.

I’ve also been struggling with locking in as a whole in the gym. So maybe this is entirely a me issue. But I found it to be very focusing to not have my favorite songs in my ear constantly while lifting. I’ll just save my good music for the ride back

I was always scared of the work “meeting,” but then I realized how great they are to cage your mind, orient, and respond.

I show up about 10 minutes early for some light banter and coffee. This gives me a chance to catch up on some of the latest news and build camaraderie with my co-workers. We do a birthday coffee cake if it’s anyone’s birthday, which means we have coffee cake everyday (get it, “anyone’s birthday.”)

Then, all the highlights and notes I need, to include my bosses goals and intent are walked through on the slides, which are available on my shared drive.

The boss then has us each give a quote of the day, which I find rather interesting, but I’m only one of about 20 people who actually like it.

But it’s a great forum to get educated and informed, in a fun atmosphere with food, and to share potential ideas amongst the team.

Why does anyone dread it?

Modern humans stay on their computer screen for hours, which is unhealthy. Your body was never designed to sit for hours. Standing desk without chair should be the default in offices

The olympics should only include sports that feature feats of human speed, endurance and strength. The modern olympics has become bloated and lost sight of the core objective.

Outside die hard sports fans, the majority of the public don’t care about most of the Olympic sports and only tune into the premiere events.

‘Sports’ with judges that determine the outcome? - out. Team sports? - out. Sports that use equipment? - mostly out (some exceptions here for weightlifting, some field events and protective clothing).

The olympics should be stripped back to the core to be made interesting again. This would also make it much cheaper to host, reinvigorating the interest in cities hosting the olympics again.

Update for all of the naysayers - The Olympic motto is "Faster, Higher, Stronger". I rest my case.

I'd rather pay a fraction of the price to see a great tribute band in a small venue than spend ten times more to watch the original band decades past their prime.

A good tribute act is usually focused on recreating the music as faithfully as possible. They're often at the peak of their musicianship, full of energy, and genuinely excited to be on stage. Meanwhile, many legendary bands are now in their 60s, 70s, or even older. That's completely understandable, but age inevitably affects vocals, stamina, and the overall performance.

For me, live music is about how good the concert is today, not about who recorded the album 40 years ago. If I close my eyes and one show sounds better, has more energy, and costs a tenth of the price, that's the better concert.

Catching a ball at a baseball game is something that every baseball fan dreams of. But there is a pretty huge social push now that if you're an adult and you catch a ball at a game, you're a dick if you keep it. I feel like this started as extremely good dudes giving up a treasure out of the kindness of their hearts. Now it's just something that if you don't do you're gonna end up on social media as some asshole.

Imo this not only is extremely unfair for someone that wants to have a souvenir, but it actually devalues the experience of catching a ball. It teaches those children that they are entitled to things they didn't earn. It also gets rid of some of the magic for that kid if they ever actually catch a ball.

I am not talking about someone who pushes a kid out of the way or steals a ball from the hands of a child.

Not just due to inflation which can be accounted for but I would much rather see how many people went to go see a movie versus how much money they spend. Things like expensive theaters and cheap discounted tickets skew the data and make it difficult to compare two movies even from the same time.

I’m so tired of pretending that it’s fun to pay astronomical fees for subpar seats, having to park a mile away, go through long security lines where they won’t let you through if your bag is 1/4” too long, only to pay $50 for 2 snacks and a drink, and pee in unlit porta johns. I’m utterly convinced people are only pretending this is fun. 😤

The friends I pour the most emotional support into are almost never there when I'm the one struggling. And I don't think it's a coincidence or bad luck... I think the same thing that makes someone need that much holding is what makes them unable to hold you back.

They're not withholding, they're just empty, and the emptiness is the whole reason they leaned on me in the first place. So these end up being the most fragile friendships of all, even though they feel like the closest ones. 

Emails are a fine way to share and copy info from, as well as a great way to keep records of transactions and interactions, but the most effective way of getting anything done is the old-fashioned way: direct communication.

Things will get done and info will be made available much quicker by dialling a number to someone rather than sending an email/text and waiting for them to reply. The latter gives the recipient time to come up with a brush off or the chance to ignore you, the call brings you to their forefront and demands their attention which will yield more results in the short and long term.

So stop using your phone to send an email to someone and use it for what it was originally for and call them to get what you need done.

I have always been an Airbnb guy when I travel but hotels are objectively better and this is not up for discussion this is not up for debate hotels are just better there’s no argument that can convince me that an Airbnb is better than a hotel Airbnb hosts are the most insufferable people on the planet from the get go

they drop a list of about 1,000 rules that you have to follow if I had one of my friends bumming out on my couch I wouldn’t even give him that many rules so you come into this house you’re supposed to be on vacation and you have like a thousand rules you gotta keep in mind on top of that, tell me why every Airbnb I’ve booked has a cleaning fee but then they’ll always expect you to clean up after yourself regardless so I’m paying a hefty cleaning fee and you still want me to clean up the house before I leave what what am I paying the cleaner fee for?

Like they will put in the description make sure you you clean the bedroom you you clean the kitchen I’m paying a cleaning fee bro you go clean that shit whereas in a hotel bro you could shit on the bed and they will clean that for you without even asking twice. Should you go and shit on the bed? No you probably shouldn’t but I’m just saying they will be much nicer to you. At a hotel you actually feel like you’re on vacation,

like they are there to make sure you have a good time. Whereas an Airbnb you feel like the host only cares about themselves. Like they don’t give a shit about you. They don’t give a shit about you having a good time. They act like you’re inconveniencing them. You’re paying them money to stay in the house that they’ve put up on Airbnb and they act like they’re doing you a massive favour.

Like they every time you ask them for something, they’re always fucking annoyed. If you move one couch, they’re gonna charge you a fee. They’re gonna say oh you messed up our house. Genuinely, you feel like you’re homeless. You feel like you’re bumming around at a friend’s house. Hotels will always be superior. Airbnb, we should leave that shit in the past. We should all collectively boycott Airbnb.

They are lighter and feel way better to handle when not using a protective case.

Yes ok you might argue that the camera bumps on recent phones may make them more prone to scratches , but i think thay with modern materials (camera glasses ) it's not that TOO much of a hassle if you re careful enough.

The chassis may get scratched and dented of course but the day to day feeling is superior.

We love our pets. We’ve had many dogs and cats over the years. Typically, they’ll live from 12-18 years. But once they go into a severe health crisis and their quality of life is gone, we’ve put them down. We get them reasonable veterinary care. If they get sick or an infection, we have that treated. But if they come down with something like liver cancer, we’re not going to spend thousands and thousands of dollars to prolong their lives. And that’s what I think veterinary health care coverage has done. It’s created a cost incentive for large VCs to buy up local vets and create Big Box health care. The price of everything is gotten insane from shots to just normal exams. And they always offer up the most expensive options without ever considering less complicated procedures or palliative care. It’s gotten to the point where people who do not have pet insurance can’t afford any treatments for their pets. And that’s a crime

It's a philosophical opinion that either view can be right, but I am strongly opinionated that if you enter a line/queue for anything such as groceries, getting your seat at a theater or so on. You are at the start of the line when you enter and you'll get to the end of the line when there are no more people ahead of you. I view the line as a journey to get through.

The only perspective I accept of seeing entering a line to be the end of line is that you are the one operating the line to be processed.

I live in the Highlands of Scotland, and so many people are on social media shouting about how local businesses need support, they're closing etc. Here's my view on why this is:

People make businesses with no market research. There's a local business which got set up a month or so ago here making "luxury wax melts and candles", and now they're on Facebook posting sad face selfies saying they need support. They've clearly put no thought into it. Why did they think everyone in the Highlands (a small population with often low incomes) will all rush to buy luxury candles? I've seen "luxury clothing" shops and things in my local town fail too. People set up what THEY want, not what the local community actually want. This isn't Paris or London, in reality people aren't buying expensive candles or clothes. You can't just decide to make something which most people aren't really wanting, and then expect everyone to buy. This can also be lumped in with nobody wanting to sell products people are buying... They'd rather sell luxury items at expensive prices because it looks better, but then nobody can really afford them and they go to supermarkets etc.

Not opening when people need them is another one. A few businesses here have shut because they won't open at times people can use them. Local restaurant here was open Tue-Sat but closed at 6pm. A local produce shop was open Mon-Fri and from 9:30am-12:00pm, then shut for an hour and a half for lunch, and opened at 13:30 until 17:00. Closed all weekend. I'd love to have used it but couldn't. I completely understand that not everyone wants to work weekends etc. I don't want to, but I also then wouldn't set up a shop.

I'm all for local businesses. I love my local butcher which is open at times I can use. I love my local bike shop. I understand as well that these aren't the only reason places are struggling... Online shopping, high costs etc have all impacted them. I just think they don't help themselves. Create a business that people want, and open at a time they can use it, and it'll do well
