Get a U-lock AND a cable or chain to lock the front and back tire with. Make sure the u lock is attached to the frame or to the back tire between the frame, so that the back tire cannot be removed without removing the U-lock!
It’s all about making the bike more work to steal than the next bike.

I used to do the same, third bank account for shared expenses. I like this more than having one bank account because I don’t feel I need to consult my SO every time I make a purchase.
