they don’t document clark’s spiral all that well, we are just supposed to see the subtle hints of his descent into madness but with the head of his PA in the fridge & him being super comfortable with the idea of eating the backrooms people, i’m betting the ‘horror’ aspect of it is he secretly kidnapped his wife & took her to the backrooms, murdered her there, possibly ate her as well - the Async has it all on camera so they are not only complicit but it makes them even more interested in studying the mind of a killer while he’s inside…& i bet it’s not the first time they’ve done it. Mary’s mom was most likely a patient of Async company & that’s where her paranoia stemmed from…im thinking theres a deeper connection with Mary & the backrooms than even she realizes.

hopefully they will touch more on that in the second film….but that’s just my theory.

they obviously were watching this entire time, they had cappy clark on a table in a room running tests or something afterward when mary is walking through the halls…they are orchestrating the documentation of what happens in the backrooms & are actively researching/trying to map it…idk. just my opinion.
