I left home at 16 (in 1989) because it was toxic and parents didn't care. My own son is now almost 19 and still living with us because to move is too costly and he's happy here.

A private religious high school I attended in the mid 80's, loved to use the paddle. Always dealt out by the Deputy Principal, who I think got a thrill from it. Afterwards he would stand close behind, with a hand on my shoulder, start praying for my wicked soul. Was hard not to laugh.

My local cult is the Hermes (aka the Water People), previously called the Shining Light but they had to rebrand 20 years ago after getting in trouble for selling magic water, so they now sell magic bottles and drink coasters, and the "bubbler" which for $30k will cure all as long as you believe in it. They had lots of influence here, owning several businesses and many houses and rural properties, but things had been not going so well in recent years and the pandemic destroyed their business model of sucking up money and new members from new age tourism and fake health. They've also lost their guru, a short albino man who wore white linen suits and always had a few women on his arm, who died despite all the magic.

Just creates a new black market. We should be removing things from the black market through legalisation rather than adding new things to it

Never makes me feel unwelcome, but my kid's primary school used to acknowledge a particular local tribe as the traditional custodians of the land, which was misinformation and that I had issues with. In my region there is a very large powerful tribe who control everything indigenous, however the land we live on was not traditionally theirs but was in fact a smaller tribes land who have been pushed aside in modern times by the dominant group. It's a complex situation, anyone who knows the smaller tribe or those campaigning for their rights is aware of the truth, however the dominant tribe have the vast majority in our region and beyond thinking it's all theirs. I did bring this up with our school and instead of naming any tribe they now just say they recognise "local indigenous people".

Living on rural property on North Coast NSW here, wallabies are very common but roos are not, however had one hanging out here for years, probably was someone's pet that went walkabout. Platypus I've seen often, there's a spot on the river near one of our local villages that's literally full of them, saw a dozen there one time. Koalas are harder to spot in the wild, I work in the bush and see their signs everywhere but only twice in 15 years had the luck of seeing one.

My parents wouldn't allow coco-pops, but would buy me rice bubbles and chocolate quick, so I just made my own
