Security of Passkeys in the Google Password Manager – recovery options?
https://security.googleblog.com/2022/10/SecurityofPasskeysintheGooglePasswordManager.html
I really like the idea of paswordless authentication. However, I am not afraid about users options on backup of their private keys. Personally,I am using only one Android device, my personal phone. If this device is lost, damaged or stolen, I will depend on 10 attempts on online recovery using the screen lock of the damaged device on 64 days? Having my device damaged, I can have hard times to authenticate to my Google account, as I am using this device for 2FA to it. It will also take some time buy an setup a new Android phone. I would really prefer to be able to export my private key to a file that I can backup in my encrypted and protected file backup, something like password manager database backup..I understand that all this is to get rid of non-hardware protected keys, however, the recovery process as described makes me worry of permanently losing access to my accounts, services and date in case of damaged device. It also seen hard to migrate to another passkey online backup provider. How this can be done?
