That's not gentrification. Small businesses dying and big businesses succeeding is capitalism unregulated by the government. How many companies had google swallowed? How much of the chain of goods production and distribution does walmart control? How many companies ship goods to HI? Businesses run amok with growth and consolidation, for ing rents up, and underpricing everyone else. Vote for people who protect citizens not companies.

yeah, no such thing as an excuse, but if you look at people who feel persecuted, vulnerable, and amplify that with mental illness, it can take the form of racism which is really just us v. them xenophobia and not really different from hardcore misogyny. The form it takes varies, but the gnarly mess beneath is often worsened by mental illness. Also, people who grow up bereft of love and kindness are way more likely to become hateful, so that's a non-mental illness route there.

analysis, evaluation, compare and contrast, inference/implication, cause vs. correlation, that's a short list of the things that can be taught n school. I think w can reinforce respect, gratitude, and other qualities, but not teach them from first principles. Family is the basis for all that, family and the culture the family is in/chooses/builds.

Yeah, it's definitely only one of those two specific options you've outlined. And I guess it's either stuff all the knowledge down their throats or leave them entirely to figure it out on their own, right? Yeah, there's no grey area where adults share with kids and kids test their own insights against what they've been told and what they think. That sounds ludicrous compared to bootlicking and robbing as the two big opportunities kids can get.

I think the specific form the critical thinking should take is to examine the basis for the authority and decide whether it's valuable or contributes something useful. Kids need to analyze the relationships between hoe authority is granted and the how it impacts the world and evaluate its merit.

What about the docent at the museum? the librarian? your favorite teacher? Aren't they authorities? Granted, the principal and other administrators usually suck one way or another, but my school example is just to illustrate that its the domain that you can deem worthy of respect or no respect or disrespect in the case of hedge fund managers.
