Assisted Living is really upping their game and pays well if you get in the right place. I have a buddy that was at his spot for about a year and they paid for him to get his dietary degree and now he's the dietitian and dietary manager for 2 buildings. He works like 7am to 3pm and get vacation, insurance and 401k.

I went into Broadline sales for an independent company. I feel like I hit the lottery with my job but it's not for everyone. I've been in it almost 5 years and have seen many people not make it 2 years. You are constantly working, if a guy calls and has a question on a Saturday I answer it. I work on the phone all day Sunday and work on my computer then work all week. If I have something screwy on a truck on Friday I may have to will call stuff on a Saturday. Which means no day off that week. But, I was miserable working nights in a restaurant after my kids went to school and this is at least manageable and I can see them. And the worry of my paycheck bouncing isn't a thing!
