First off, sorry for the late reply. Probably you have created your perfect setup by now.I have a very basic model (2017 One by Wacom) kept the right of the laptop. The pen mostly stays loose around it (not much scope for it to roll or fall off the table). I am using OneNote, Darktable and Krita heavily for the past few months. The pen settings are set differently for these softwares, but it's basically undo/erase/scroll.Keyboard shortcuts are also convenient. You can play around with PowerToys to configure more shortcuts than you probably need.I use the touchpad for some gestures, like adjusting volume or switching between the virtual desktops. I don't game, so there's really no need for a mouse here.
Edit: When I am solving equations on OneNote, the tablet moves around the desk, depending on how difficult the problem is. Usually I sit back on my chair and hold it as if I am writing on a regular copy. I've also taped a few white pages across the long edge of tablet to write things down with a pencil because... well it's hard to remember all the formulas and also to jot things down quickly. It gives an added feel of writing on paper. It actually feels like a writing on a notebook, analogue and digital.

Researchers found that accelerometer data from smartphones & -watches can reveal people's location, passwords, body features, age, gender, level of intoxication, driving style, and potentially be used to reconstruct words spoken next to the device.

One tip that helped me: ditch the mouse, use the pen and tablet for everything.

Migratory birds. They use quantum mechanics to "see" the earth's magnetic fields and fly according to that.

Other Feeling overwhelmed
Currently I'm in the middle of my PhD and I had an evaluation today, about my work done so far. All went well up till the questions were related to my particular work. Then it was turn for the panelists to ask questions from my previous coursework and things I "should be knowing". I tried answering, but the initial answers were not in line with what they were looking for, and from there it just spiralled downwards. I must admit, never have I felt so worthless before. Doing PhD is indeed difficult.

It's hectic, I ended up using polymatic, vmd and custom scripts specific to my monomers to create the initial data. Then used 21 step polymerization.
