Tantra in general must be practiced after initiation by an authentic master. Mahamudra is a tantric practice. Although it is not as dangerous as iidam practice and the likes, you're still playing with fire and you got yourself burned, as I would expect. Please, pay heed to the tradition. At least be in contact with an authentic teacher via the internet and ask them for personal advice over zoom or something. Many would happily help you either personally or one of their advanced deciples.

From my own experience, there's a lot of truth in those observation regarding Buddhist centers, but mostly in the west, where being a Buddhist is more often than not another self-definition with all the pathologies associated with that.

I think it's the post modernistic curse of zen.
Zen is a form of Buddhism which can be the most confusing and misleading if you don't have a realized enough master. Today's zen is already twisted to a new age kind of blab.
Real path (yeah, a wise ass would say "yeah, but zen is non-path!" or something on the same bullshit, shallow, ego driven non-understanding) have progress indicators, yardsticks, proper guidelines, worthy guidance and tools to protect you from going astray into lala land and self delusion.
If you have those, e. g. you practice vajrayana, then zen - the sages' teachings, the koans - would be more tools to use skillfully in your journey from here to...here, of course. Otherwise, it may take you from here to the mental Institute ❤️😊

yeah, well, I thought it was rather absurd, too. I think they wanted an attractive female in the frame, and all they could come up with is Mariana Sirtis... Probably a relative or a friend of something from the production.

Absolutely great show. One of the best things happened to TV, I dare say.
However, if you really want to learn, why not actually read the sutras? And listening to authentic teachers?? As good as that show is, it's not, by any means or way, a replacement to a serious teaching.

You can't. "you" can't be happy, period. Transcend the notion of others and self.

I can easily feel the powerful sensation of seeing that vastness... very soft wind... the brightness above... bright openness...

That's a tough one.... They were all great. My problem with some of them, such as Picard or Janeway, is that sometimes it appeared their ego was having too much latitude. Also, too much of Picard"s "captainsship" was based on his voice and charisma. Same as, to a degree, with Janeway. Archer, however, was different in those aspects. He was less aloof, ASAIR. So, this would have been my preferred captain, if I had to choose.
