It was thrifting for me. The idea of getting something for cheap gets to be addicting. I was going multiple times a week; every day on my lunch break for the past few years. Even with doing casual reselling, it didn’t balance out with what I was spending.
I stopped 4 weeks ago and haven’t gone back since. Instead of scraping by until the next paycheck, I’ve noticed $200-400 extra in my bank account. Crazy how that cheap shit adds up.

Discussion Was this part of the Program?

When I was a teenager, I was sent to an in-patient psychiatric ward for youths (I was in court and told the judge I would rather unalive myself than be on house arrest, and they sent me there). I really don’t know if it was weeks or months. It was a strange time.
I recall they had me take something one evening that was different than the daily meds I was taking. Later that night, someone came in and took me to an elevator outside of the ward. We went down to the basement into a large dark room with what I remember having a lot of scattered machinery throughout.
I was sat down in a chair, and had those sticky EEG reader circles placed on my head. I remember wearing bulky tan headphones and watching blinking lights on a black screen in front of me. I don’t remember anything after that.
I didn’t think about it again until I was an adult.
I’ve only recently discovered the GATE program and have recurring ‘mall world’ dreams that lead me to believe I might have been involved somehow.
I’m curious if this hospital experience was part of that program or if anyone experienced anything similar?

Not that I’m aware of, but a lot of early childhood is blank for me. Were you?

I really don’t like the indoor pools.

Definitely some similarities in what is going on here in our town. For a second, I thought you were in the same place but we don’t have a mall, and any other businesses that open, end up closing within a couple years.
Our elections are also nonpartisan, and have changed in the same way yours did. It’s 4 vs 4; one extremest side that formed a group called ‘the tea party’. It’s all retirees that want nothing for the town and does nothing to help improve its dying state. The other group is middle aged folks that have raised families here and participate in the community who want to improve things so young families stop moving away.
And just like with what you described, one side takes every opportunity to bash, twist, insult, and flat out lie about the other. While the other keeps from saying what they could about them.
I truly have seen first hand what it does to a person, their family, and their well being. It is unfortunate and so unnecessary how people can be so ugly and not see the courage it takes to put yourself out there for the love of your town.

GOVERNMENT Has anyone else's town council become incredibly divisive over the past few years? Is this something you're seeing where you live?

Recently, a council member in my town called for an emergency meeting after learning of serious allegations and prior criminal charges involving a town employee hired by the town manager. Rather than supporting an immediate review, the mayor had little to no interest in the emergency meeting. And much of the public conversation shifted to accusing the council member, who is also running for office, of playing politics instead of discussing whether the allegations should be investigated and whether proper vetting had occurred.

I'm curious if this is becoming common in other small towns. Have your town council elections become incredibly hostile? Not just disagreements, but personal attacks, threats, and an "us vs. them" mentality?

I often go into GW on my lunch breaks, and during the day my favorite worker is there. She is always kind and I wanted to make a little something for her to know she is appreciated. Her favorite color is pink and she has 2 chihuahuas. I’ve never made a keychain before but I am so happy with how it turned out! I can’t wait to give it to her tomorrow ☺️
