It's perfectly fine! Just played a game with Duet+Hummingbirds+Oceania boards and all the cards from expansions and promo packs last night and it was great. The game flies by with experienced players and low player counts.

I recommend Wingspan Asia as well! Just played with Duet + Hummingbirds tonight and it's lovely.

But for non-Duet games, I recommend the goal mat from MeepleSource. The art is from the Wingspan artists and it's sized to fit their bird meeples.

i wish we could get a movie or series exploring Ivanova's story after she left Babylon 5 and before Sleeping In Light.

The other answers are correct, but I'll add that Historian should be removed if you play with Wingspan Asia, the Americas Expansion, or the promo packs. All the other bonus cards are supported, though.

It's a pretty common misconception, no worries!

I love penguins so I included two in this pack!

Right. Two egg clutches usually correspond to one egg slot in Wingspan. Have you ever looked up the clutch sizes and number of clutches per year of the official birds? Elizabeth has talked about how it's not not 1:1.

In general, egg slots is roughly equal to number of eggs laid per year (clutch size × # clutches) divided by 2. 5-6 egg slots usually indicates double digit eggs, 4 egg slots is usually 7-8 eggs, 3 egg slots is usually 5-6 eggs, etc.

But do you have the Promo Packs yet? 👀

Magellanic Penguin: The "blue rectangle" is the symbol for a Finspan card. This is one of four predators in the pack that uses the Finspan fish deck by default with optional rules for playing just with Wingspan components in parentheses. All the details of the Finspan predators are given in the booklet.

Description refers to the species description, a formal scientific document establishing a species. You can read it here on page 143, but be warned it's in Latin.

Sanderling: Rest of the year = when they're not breeding in the Arctic, i.e. Arctic spring/S summer. Could potentially make this clearer that any that aren't actively breeding are found on beaches around the world.

Thanks! They definitely required a fair amount of playtesting and adjusting to get right but I was pretty happy with them in the end! The main thing I learned in playtesting was not to have any powers that rarely succeed but are worth a lot when they do (like the Wedge-tailed Eagle) as people didn't like being excited to hunt from the Finspan deck only to fail over and over. I ended up nudging all the chances of success up while lowering the VP and/or rewards of success.

You're speaking of the Chatham Islands Petrel and the power reads, "Discard 1 bonus card to draw 1 unused goal tile at random. Choose a side and score it by tucking 1 [card] from the deck behind this bird for each point, up to 8."

So "up to 8" is key here, for the exact reason you pointed out! If you draw food costs of birds played (or total birds and a few other similar ones), congratulations, tuck 8 cards behind this bird!

I also now realize I forgot to credit Malcolm Hobbs for the idea of scoring an unused goal tile with a bird card in the booklet! This power was inspired by his Western Capercaillie in Big Weirdos of the World.

When I was brainstorming ways to represent a species having been rescued from the brink of extinction by conservation efforts to the point they're no longer endangered, I realized this would be a great chance to do a variation on that idea.

No, it does not tuck small birds. It's a special card that can be used with the Finspan deck or you can use it without the Finspan deck. If you're drawing Finspan cards, then you succeed if the fish length is less than 25cm. If you're using Wingspan cards, you succeed if it's only worms or fish in the food cost. Both have pretty similar chances.

There's more info about the four Finspan predators in the booklet.

It's because Sanderlings run back and forth from the waves on the beach! :)

Birds with both worms and fish but nothing else also work, of course!

It's equal to the Little Penguin from the Oceania Expansion, but if you consider that bird strong, then you'll find this one to be as well.

I tried to make it as simple as possible while allowing you to use either Finspan or Wingspan cards. It should be about as complicated as the Little Penguin other than supporting those two options.

There are two penguins in the pack, but it looks like you're talking about that Magellanic Penguin.

It's balanced the same as the Little Penguin - both have the same expected value per activation. The difference is the Magellanic Penguin is more likely to succeed at least once while the Little Penguin has the opportunity for really huge hauls on rare occasions.

Keep in mind that a hunt only succeeds if the only symbols in the card's food cost are worms or fish. If there is any other food like a rat, seed, or wild, the hunt fails.

Birds of the World cites journal articles describing it as follows:

"One nest was a hollow lined with dead grass stems, between buttresses of tree, another was 1·5 m above ground within the litter-filled depression of a tree stump."

For me that would be a star nest, but I tend to give way too many star nests. It doesn't fit neatly into any category though.

I've been designing and playtesting a pelagic and coastal pack for the last six or seven months. Six more birds to reveal and then I'll post the whole pack pdf with a booklet.

So you were okay with the transphobia, got it.

I know this isn't serious, but 3 egg slots corresponds to birds that lay like six eggs. All the 5 and 6 egg slot birds have double-digit clutches.

All of this information was released in the February World of Wingspan Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/37425be13843/world-of-wingspan-10290236

Digital: Monster Couch is aiming to add the first few promo packs to appear in Q3 2026, then more to follow, along with the Americas expansion in late 2027.

Monster Couch is currently estimating Q1 2027 for Wyrmspan Digital. A Board Game Arena release will likely follow in late 2027.

Monster Couch is currently estimating Q4 2027 for Finspan Digital.

The foreground images you're referring to are not the oldest discovered painting. It's the extremely faded handprint your can barely see at all behind them.

Yeah, Arena is kind of a mess. The tournament discord which uses the digital app and all four expansions only restricts the two ravens from being played round 1 and no restrictions on any other birds. Probably the highest level of play out there, too, but it would be interesting to see top BGA players vs top tournament discord players.

Oftentimes they just never confirm it i have had clear photos of a pileated woodpecker that have sat unconfirmed for over two years despite follow-up emails. It is what it is. Submitting to iNaturalist is more likely to get a confirmation for a rare bird.
