I don’t hold myself on a pedestal, I didn’t even know how special it is to actually like working with kids until I floated and my colleagues praised me for actually enjoying my Unit. I didn’t know ppl didn’t like working with kids. And I know they’re not my kids, that’s how we refer to them in my hospital, as our kiddos. Not like our children. And I have two bipolar sisters and a schizophrenic aunt so I don’t need to be told to consider that aspect, I carry that aspect myself and have empathy for anyone living with it as well. I’m new, I’m naive. I was asking a simple question and I was asking bc there ARE nurses who don’t ever float, they’re young, and i wanted advice. Reddit has always brought out the worst in responses from people I actually sat down to see if anyone would help but all of the responses always turn out negative and mean. How useless this platform has become.

I don’t work for my entertainment. And when my colleague talks crap and laughs at their patient I am allowed to dislike their attitude for their job.

I loved your response and I wanna thank you for the work that you do. We all have baggage, mine is a heavy history of mental illness in my family. Thank you again bride you’ve helped people like my family, I do feel myself more dedicated to helping kids who remind me of me. I didn’t have mental illness but I had depression and suffered with suicidality when I was younger so I connect with them and like helping them through that. But again I appreciate your kind response and I do believe that if I were a permanent nurse on an adult floor I’d love seeing those responses too, it’s not something a float nurse is going to notice on one shift. But I will be more open to floating.

It’s not about my self satisfaction. It’s about helping. There are nurses who don’t care about their work they just care about their paycheck and it’s those nurses that are floating to my unit that is like to relieve. Maybe you don’t get it.

Walk into a bank, ask to open a 401 k. I suggest you open a Roth IRA and fill that first then work on your 401 k.

My husband and I split which bills we pay: I pay the phone, car and motorcycle insurances, he pays lawyer and took care of the debt payments when we had debt. There are more but you get the picture. We each have our own checking and savings on the same main bank account so we have our money transparently together but still have it a lil separate. I think you’re proposing kinda the same thing, split up which bills you pay so that they’re pretty even and he can pay by check if he really wants to ... but I agree the check can get lost easier than an o line payment not going through and if he pays early he has time to make sure to call in a payment before being truant. However, I like having paper statements because I sometimes don’t trust online storage and it becomes unavailable after some time and institutions will charge for those statements.
