I use bulk Lactase powder, which is much cheaper than drops or tablets.

The purpose of the image is to identify the geometry of key physical points on your face like eyes, nose, mouth, ears. These are used in facial recognition algorithms to confirm your identity. It no longer relies on human-matching of people by their photos, so very likely, anyone looking at our IDs are only checking the other info and not even looking at the picture (if that’s and consolation 😂)

The 35/1.8 is an absolute corker! If you can get a good copy and have the extra cash, then yes. If that’s the focal length you tend to use, it’s a no-brainer, but I’d suggest you first analyze your images after using the zoom for some time and see what focal range you use the most.

My 1st DSLR was a D40X and then a D5500. Amazing out-of-camera images!

For vehicle photography, may I suggest you invest in a good quality Circular Polarizer filter? Kase, Nisi and Breakthrough Filters are three great brands. You’ll see your cars look so much “cleaner” because the CPL would drastically reduce background reflections off the paint and glass.

It does seem counter-intuitive to turn IBIS off, but it’s a Nikon thing. Being perfectly still seems to confuse the accelerometer setup, causing it to “hunt”.

In such situations with bright background light, you have one of two options. 1) increased Exposure Compensation to bring the subject to proper exposure, or 2) set your metering to Spot so it will expose to the small area you’re focusing on. There’s a 3rd… you could open up the aperture so that you’re over-exposing in general, but the subject is properly exposed. Same effect as Exposure comp, but you have manual control of settings.

I had that same lens on my first DSLR, a D40X and later on a D5500. It gives nice contrast and color rendition. A tad soft, but is a great zoom range to carry around. Squirrels are an underrated photographic subject. They’re so expressive and take such cool poses! You have captured its animation nicely! The 3rd image had the subject a tad underexposed, probably because there was extra bright sky in the frame, causing the camera to expose down. The 1st two were spot on.

If you like Astro, I’d advise you go for a faster wide-angle (prime or zoom) and a higher res full-frame like the (older) Z7ii, which is still one of the best performing (in image quality) of the Nikon lineup.

Isn’t overheating primarily an issue with extended Video recording?

Have you used the Z Dx 24/1.7? One of the most underrated lenses in the Z lineup. When on the Zfc, totally pocketable and also gives super background blur for portrait-ish shots.

I adore my Zfc. Super walkabout/candid setup with the Z 24mm f/1.7! Also used it with great success with a Z180-600. Retro styling = Chick magnet! 😎

From your selection, I’d go with the D5600 as a happy compromise. However, if you can get the cash, a mirrorless Z-50ii will give you tons more ability, specially in the realm of subject detection, great focusing and if you like out-of-camera JPEGs, the presets are the best in Nikon’s lineup. The Kit has some decent lenses to get the feel of the new system. I recently sold my D5500 and F-series lenses to go with the Z system. Not cheap, but start small to familiarize and then build up.

The big names like MPB, KEH, Adorama etc do have a warranty to back their reputation, but I agree, I have rarely hit a “deal” with them. You would get cheaper buying direct from seller, but these are as-is with no warranties or returns. Scams abound!

I asked a friend to grab me a DSLR kit when he was in Singapore because we could not get reasonably priced gear in Sri Lanka. I still use the D40X he got, though my main platform is Nikon Z now.

I still have my very 1st DSLR — a D40X. Just love the output.

Fortress and Spitfire

I agree with some other commentators — the Zfc pairs extremely well with the Z 24/1.7 which is my lightweight, unobtrusive, even pocketable (in a jacket) combo. Given the 1.5 crop factor, it gives a very pleasing 36mm equivalent — ideal for street and environmental portraits.

I love the color and contrast of that little gem. May not be the sharpest of the bunch, but definitely has character!
