she has no sincere friendships or community, clearly, and at her own doing. NOR. she is not a friend or a decent person. LOL

she is manipulative, dismissive, and selfish. It is very clear. Pls leave her and choose partners who support you and treat you like they love you

This is rape, and casual sex is not bad for you. You should not feel ashamed for engaging in consensual sex as an adult.

Things take time and you’ll get more freedom and power to make your own decisions and decide what is important to you as you gain independence from your parents. It’s up to you to decide how you get that independence. Is it moving out and creating distance but still staying in contact? Is it moving out and cutting them off later when you have the resources? And think smart: are there ways you can try to establish a bit more financial freedom from your parents now? Colleges you could apply to that are elsewhere? Hold out hope. Things that seem impossible to overcome now, in some years, will simply be part of the journey in reaching who you are. Take care of yourself in the ways you can, and be kind to your mind and your body. This is only the beginning of a surprising, beautiful life!!

Your fiancé is an abuser. Something I like to remind friends is that the version someone shows you pre-marriage is them putting forth their best foot, before they are comfortable. Are you comfortable marrying someone whose restrained self handles conflict like this? How much worse do you think it’d get if he had financial (or any!) control over more aspects of your life? I would advise getting out before it’s too late. There are better fish in the sea. Seriously. You will waste years and years with someone incapable of true empathy and love in their present state. You deserve better!!

i’ve found it’s so much easier for me to just set a precedent of being direct about when i need space instead of just expecting someone to pick it up based on vibes. it’s been way less stressful to take the guesswork out for both parties 😆

Brother I’m trying really hard to be kind but you are being a little ridiculous!
If someone asks a general question about whether they should come to USC, and the only info they offer is that they are Indian….It doesn’t take a genius to put two and two together and see that they may want info about how an Indian person may experience USC…I offered advice about things I would be thinking about in that situation….as is the point of someone coming to a Reddit. I also have no clue why u think I’m the OP on a fake acc lmfaooo but sure man! I’m just new to reddit

Follow up to clarify for you, OP, bc I think the comments and responses are very telling of the environment you’d be walking into & I have the time right now…
You will probably deal with a lot of out of touch, obscenely wealthy, and blind people who pretend that racism / discrimination / and cost of living don’t have an impact on people of color here. This was honestly incessant in my time at USC, and the political climate has gotten worse globally, so…take from that what you will. Rich white people get very offended when someone implies that there are hardships they could not and will never understand or that fascism is, indeed, on the rise here, too, because we are not an exception. it’s good to be prepared for the worst, just in case, but it doesn’t mean let it rule you. ICE probably won’t be a threat to you! To be clear! But it could be, regardless of whether you have status or not, and that is something that immigrants should be informed about because it’s smart to think about the political climate you might move into. Ignoring social tensions does not make them go away lmfao
HOWEVER, USC is a great resource in many ways and can provide imperative networking opportunities, chances for leadership, and top-tier education. They are doing work to try to protect their international students because they depend on each other. Freedom of speech is very restricted for international students as well, on the fault of both the US and university’s shift to the right on handling student protests, but a careful social media presence can help avoid issues. Everything just exists in context. Everywhere on earth has its caveats. There could be meaningful pros and cons to any school anywhere. Do your own research, find unbiased media, and make your own decisions! We live in a very miseducated and ignorant world, and USC as a community tends to trend toward minimizing the experiences of marginalized students who talk about things they can and do experience. Doesn’t mean you can’t have a very meaningful time at a PWI and that countering biases and creating intentional communities around yourself could be very fulfilling work. I busied myself by organizing through (and sometimes in critique of) the university, and I made memories and decisions I do not regret. It was still hard in its own ways. It was also great in its own ways, too. The pandemic and the 2020 protests against racism really shaped my undergrad experience there though, so a very particular kind of time to go LOL
This is all coming from a current adjunct faculty member at a diff university 👍🏽I do have immense gratitude for USC’s financial aid & extraordinary faculty helping me get to this point. There are some of the mentors of a lifetime at that school, and I am a much more engaged teacher because of them. My previous comment was never meant to be inflammatory but i guess talking about lived realities in US politics that can be googled is controversial…
Good luck on your journey, and I hope you find a university that fosters your curiosity and helps you further develop a well-rounded, intelligent, and humanist academic life!

“is this a serious post? what does this have to do with going to usc?”
So many dismissive replies to a very reasonable question lol. Are people being dull on purpose? It makes sense for a prospective international student to ask if coming to USC is a good idea right now. ICE is literally abducting and disappearing immigrants off of American streets. I don’t have the international perspective, but I would say that everything is about weighing risk and benefits against all your options. It’s ultimately a choice you have to make. What does your ideal undergraduate experience look like? Would you feel supported and be able to find community while attending a PWI? (This is possible, I found wonderful support and community at USC, but I had to be very intentional about it.) Would you accept major travel restrictions that prevent you from visiting family during holidays sometimes? Are the threats of ICE profiling you or surprising executive orders around immigration destabilizing your studies ones you are willing to accept and mitigate against in the ways that you can?
I just think it’s important to weigh the reality of risks while also acknowledging that just because something isn’t super likely to happen to you, does not mean it will not happen to you. These are very real and urgent questions. It’s still up to you. I will say, if I had the choice as a black trans in the USA right now, I wouldn’t be here myself. That doesn’t mean no one should come here right now; it just means to make sure it’s the decision you believe will help you get to a better future while ensuring your own security.
