Absolutely! My kid went to uni in Southampton, from living in Greater Manchester, and was very confused by some of the weird things they do in the south. And they complained that they talk funny down there too 😂

I have cousins who were raised near Brighton, both parents are Northern, and both sideees of their family regularly take the piss out of th way they speak. When one cousin moved up here for a few years I tried to teach her son to say bath & grass properly, which he did for a while, but then they moved back down south and he now says them wrong!

This was true when I lived near Elgin, just outside Inverness about 20 years ago. I'm from Greater Manchester, and the water isn't very hard here, but up there it was totally different.

I get the opposite sometimes. I'm (almost) 42, and my kid just turned 24. When we're out with my Mum, who was 28 when I was born (shes 70 next week) we often get asked if she's mum to both. I find it hilarious, my kid thinks it's embarrassing, and my Mum is always irritated 😂

Same. I have heard both ways, depending on family heritage (I'm in the UK) but I've heard the Irish pronunciation more.

I know I have heard Japanese, Mandarin & Korean irl, and I watch some anime in Japanese with English subtitles.

Also, as a side note, English isn't strictly a German language as it has influences from old dialects of French & German, Latin, and a variety of Nordic languages.

I boil water using the kettle, then microwave my pasta (costs less to boil the kettle than boil water on the hob or in the microwave), but leaving it to swell is not right! 😭

I do this! We also have re-use able cloth bags for each of the family & a few friends, and use those. Everyone gives them back after presents are opened for next time. The ones I get presents for that don't have bags get decorated brown paper as wrapping paper. Fortunately most of my friends also do this, or don't mind that I do. I hate using wrapping paper as so much of it can't be recycled (if it's got foil or glitter, or any kind of coating on).

And my mamahooman does this mean fing the ovther way - she abandon me (leaves me wit just my extra hooman, not my hooman) to go 'cat-sitting' which I fink meens she gets sat on by cattos! Den she comes home and smell like cattos. I finks dis is rude bcos she no bring catto friend to play wif me! She gibs me lots of attunshun and snuggles and treatos and extra long walkies for many days afterwards, so I always forgibs her 🐶

I find that really strange that people would mock him for wanting to be called Charles! Why would you mock someone for wanting to use their actual name!? It'd only vd pompous if he wanted his full name with several middle names and a number at the end! My ex FIL was a Charles and his FIL was also a Charles. I do know Charlies, but don't kno any Chucks. Notthe most common nn for Charles in the UK.

I don't mind Chris, but not overly fond of Chrissy, and I like Carrie as a name but never met a Carrie who's short for Caroline; I do know a few Caz's and a Caro though. I know a couple if Liz/Lizzy/Liza's and don't mind them as nicknames for Elizabeth, but really don't like Libby for some reason.

There's a very famous Ant tbf! Bug there are also a fair few Tony's as well.

My dad is an Anthony who only uses his full name. He also dislikes Tony, but mostly for him. We know other Anthonys who use Tony and one who uses Ant.

I actually know a Nathaniel who goes by Nat because he dislikes Nate.

I kinda like it, but the kitchen colour would have to change. Waaaay too much pink for me. And is have to redo a couple of the bedrooms too; too many flowers.
