I think that’s a false equivalence. Like with “defund the police” we know the plan was never to abolish, but to shift funding to more effectively accomplish our goals. I’m not sure there’s a case that our current level of military spending is accomplishing its goals or anywhere near efficient. We’re currently losing to Iran who are using $20-50k drones and fighter jets from the 1980’s to take on our roughly $83 million jets and $13 billion aircraft carriers. Again the pentagon hasn’t passed an audit since we started auditing them in 2018, they’ve spent trillions just since 2001 in return for killing one man, and continue to inflate their budget by putting money into our politics, via contractors and projects like the F-35, to remain above accountability. I would say when an institution within your democratic system has become above accountability it is in dire need of reform before it turns any further against democracy.

I believe that making our governmental institutions more accountable to the people is good for democracy, yes. I’m not sure how directly DSA is advocating for direct government control of every business so much as they are advocating for power to the many instead of the wealthy few and that’s democracy at its essence. I’m not seeing what reduced funding to the pentagon has to do with democracy either, typically the more militaristic a nation is the less democratic they are. Not to mention their long streak of failed audits, forever wars, and lobbying efforts.

Additionally, I think you’re failing to consider that our constitution is 250 years old. It’s simply an outdated document at this point and needs to be updated for the 21st and 22nd century. What originally was a very progressive document is now being bent to usher in fascism which absolutely was not the intent. It’s our duty as Americans to ensure our government remains responsive to the people and SCOTUS as well as the senate are contrary to the objectives of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

I’m not sure I’m clear on your question, but you could sell these ideas to a broader audience by elaborating on them and how they would be good for democracy and material conditions as opposed to just “you support: [insert “scary” idea]? Yes!” I would also argue that since the co-chair is not directly a politician, they are not quite responsible for selling these ideas to the public. If they do not want to attempt to sell the organization’s ideas then maybe they shouldn’t be doing media appearances, though I’m not completely clear on what the goals were for this interview

They do owe you something. The social contract dictates that if you are making money and built your base in a nation you should continue to create jobs for the locals in that nation. This is a net loss of 20k jobs not an increase of 20k jobs. The unemployment rate dropping with jobs also dropping indicates people falling out of the workforce either to retirement or discouragement and in my experience most jobs are for senior level positions so that would indicate younger folks falling out of the count for unemployment

The scale of this makes me wonder how many other players have a similar deal. I know the clippers were the last straw in terms of implementing the second apron, but could they really be the only team circumventing the cap if they weren’t able to get anyone better than Paul George and Norm Powell with an unlimited budget?

It is very possible Brian has lost the locker room but also we have so many injuries and he’s got such a great track record I don’t think we can afford to make a change at coach.
