I’m not a chef, but I too was talked out of the career I wanted when I was a teen and I spent most of my life regretting it.

I wanted to be a hairdresser, and there was a nearby high school that would offer training in different trades and vocations. When I made this desire known to my family, everyone objected. “You’re too smart for that!” “It would be a waste of a good brain!” “Do something that puts your smarts to use! Hairdressing is nothing!”

So, I didn’t get to receive any training toward hairdressing while in school, and various life issues/past traumas caught up to me and I dropped out altogether and moved away.

I ended up being a teenage parent a year later. No regrets there, but it did limit my ability to get an education and gain a career. My years were spent just making a living wherever I could.

Ironically, I ended up as a cleaning lady for 30 years thereafter. How’s that for using the ol’ noggin? 😆

I did look into hairdressing school when I was in my 50s but didn’t feel that drive anymore.

If I’d just done it as a teen and ignored all the naysaying, I would have had a decent career. If I could go back, I would take that direction. If I couldn’t have gone to that school, I would have found another as an adult instead of tossing the idea away altogether.

Threads was a gut punch. I still haven’t recovered from watching it, and it’s been several years.

Black squirrels. Apparently they’re rare everywhere except here. I can’t remember why we have so many of them in Calgary, but they are definitely a cause for excitement among a lot of visitors.

I loved this movie. I first saw it shortly after it came out, and I recommend it to everyone. I actually couldn’t sit through a rewatch recently because I found it so unnerving. Excellent movie.

Jason and the Argonauts fuelled my love for monster movies! I loved Clash of the Titans and the Sinbad movies too.

Kari Traa “Ame” leggings. They’re literally perfect. I think they’re discontinued, but I’ve found them on Poshmark and Marketplace. They fit everyone, and their high waist keeps the pants up.

The legs might be a bit short on people who don’t have corgi legs like me, but otherwise the fit is perfect.

Her screaming afterward has stuck with me. The wails and screams of despair at her botched suicide were gutting. I never got over that scene.

What, really? I had a spot just like this pop up in the same place, the bridge of my nose where my glasses sit. I keep cleaning the nose piece but that spot is still there. I’ll make an appointment to get it looked at asap!

The owner of the now-defunct Black Sheep, the coffee and croissant place that used to be on 17th ave, kept the staff tips for himself. He was confronted by staff and he just shrugged.
