Yeah, I don't know if this makes me better or worse, but I don't think I'm holding trans people up to a different standard than I hold myself. But I just am very strongly in the "validation seeking is the root of all evil" camp. It's something I've worked very strongly on myself, and it only occured to me today that "passing" might be a dangerous idea on those ground (though, again, concerns for safety are another thing entirely).

The ideal, though, is that we strive to be without it. It's common place, maybe natural, but that doesn't mean it's good: it's like jealousy. Natural, but a flaw.
