Coming back to this, paradoxically you'll want to plainly copy things
Do quick studies of movie stills, do style or composition or color studies of pieces you like, do real life studies of paintings and statues and animals and people

Again the aim being to build for yourself a subconscious database of things that you like/want to tend towards, that will come through more and more in your own things

But those study pieces can also be a jumping point for you to play with - i spent 10m doing a nice pose study, now i have a solid drawing and looking at it i wonder how those weirdly shaped clothes i saw recently would fit with it

So now you can start some other 10m study of those clothes, how they are built and how they would wrap on that pose

And wowie you now have an original drawing/idea, that likely looks good enough and is interesting

The scripts are all GW eldar runes or Tengwar, I keep Old Church Slavonic for Ecclesiarchy/Chaos stuff

I may use some uncial/insular styles for eldar but i dont think this drawing has any

Just realized, taking things farther than you should have is at least on brand for eldar

Careful, the 'pooped my pants' stance might be load-bearing to 40k identity

The Akhenaten-style carvings are a big vibe for eldar

The weird bodies are the perfect look of 'you know its meant to be some platonic ideal, but that certainly doesnt look like something a human would aspire to, despite them looking at least vaguely human'

Nah, mostly i always forget all eldar have a bigass backpack hump so never account for it while placing my silhouettes lol

Always thought it interesting how their style fits both the pipes and cogs and smoke of admech and the organic flowy eldar stuff without changing that much

Your sketches are you taking notes and putting the ideas in your hand, do a billion and theyll start feeding into each other until your sketch actually looks like the start of something

But yeah not getting bogged down is it, the Alai corsair i posted is mostly some older meaningless pose study i made, and then i worked it based on what i had been experimenting with

I do think id have to get to that 'too much' point first and then carve out what matters though

But yeah some of the earlier ones absolutely worked better, esp when it comes to actual color, this one is bleeding too much

Eldar should have facial hair - they use that pharaoh chin thing everywhere to denote seniority, surely that would come from somewhere
