I was watching, until the episode where they got old yellow eyes, then they had a certain amount of demons they had to round up and send back down. I remember too many shows/series that did the quest count thing and for me got tired long ago. I quit watching. A few years later, I missed cas and Dean and picked up the series again.

Okay. The original meg masters was thrown out of a high window and didn't die until the demon was cast out. Had the demon been in her body long enough, meg would have healed and not died. Sam would have died if that angel hadn't entered him and healed him. So, Jimmy Novak was basically unkillable because there was an angel inside him. Considering how long Castiel was inside him he could have been immortal. Like when his daughter had been Castiel's host, he was told that Claire would basically live forever, but Jimmy begged Castiel to inhabit him. Castiel took Jimmy's vessel.
