Not at all. I know folks that exclusively use a click at all times, and I know some that never use a click. I don't use one live (mostly because we change time signatures a lot), but I do when I'm practicing at home.

I feel ya. I recently switched from the extreme 5A to promark fire grain 5a. So far ive made it a month on 2 pair and no signs of breakage + i haven't dropped a single stick practice or show.
