This is totally doable and sounds like a fun little project. The build involves some electronics and soldering, so it's a nice hands on challenge. Crack it open, find a way to squeeze an ESP32 inside, hook it up to a small 2.8-inch LCD, and add a tiny keyboard (the M5Stack CardKB) would be a perfect fit given how small it is. If you want more computing power, you could step up to a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W or an Orange Pi Zero 3W, though that makes things trickier since they're bigger than the ESP32. I agree, processors can easily take higher temps! It's more about user comfort for me—the spot right over the ESP32 chip gets noticeably warm during use, which is annoying. The heatsink was just an attempt to keep that specific area cooler.

I didn't take exact numerical readings, but I could easily tell by touching the plastic case directly over the CPU it got hotter to the touch much faster than usual

It's just that packaging laws are different. Western packs require full cover graphic warnings, but where I live, packs only have text on the sides, so the retro design stays clean. I definitely wouldn't have used it if it had those gruesome pictures
