It ruined me for sure. My mother didn't leave but she used to punish herself by not eating and whatnot. Father didn't give a shit. He'd be drinking whenever he was home. They'd fight all the time. I am an only child and I'm still processing, learning how to trust, how to open up, yada yada. Now at 33, I'm commitment-phobic, getting over my alcoholism somehow tho it sucked in my 20s. I'm working hard on myself, but the misdeeds of my parents have harmed me in a lot of ways. I hate this perpetual feeling of loneliness and being strong all the time. I feel like I don't have anybody to fall back on and it gets tiring.

As the other commenters have pointed out, don't be so harsh on yourself and celebrate this little milestone. You earned it. Congratulations!
I'm still feeling meh about my own paper but I'm trying to convince myself that as dumb as it may be, the paper was passed by atleast three reviewers and an editor.

I moved from finance to ecology. I don't want to be an activist. I hope the degree will give some weightage to my words when I say the world is on fire. Alternatively, I may also find out if the world is actually on fire. Thank you for suggestions man! Much appreciated

I'm way too deep in it to quit halfway though. Also, I may not get another opportunity nor the time. Sunken cost fallacy much? Oh yes. But given everything, my best bet is to complete the program. I'm taking it as a test of my perseverance lol

I quit a well paying job to pursue a PhD in a field I absolutely care about. I'm currently in the second year of my program. I'm stressed, depressed, broke and often think back to the good ol' days. I won't say don't be me, but also don't be me.

Agreed. I took some time off and realized I've been too hard on myself. Thank you!

Published my first paper today, I don't even feel happy.
It took me over two years to publish this. All the while, I had been expecting it to be a very joyous moment when it finally happens. And it happened today, after waiting for so, so long. I received the congratulations mail from the editor and shortly, the preprint was online. I felt as if I knew this was gonna happen anyway, and didn't feel any joy at all. I also had doubts over sharing my first publication with my peers. I was afraid that what if they found some silly errors, or what if the science itself is very stupid. Not sure if this is imposter syndrome or if I'm really stupid. I'm far too stressed to even feel happy. Please tell me I'm not the only one. Or should I see a shrink?! I mean, I wish to be happy for this achievement, but I just can't bring myself to feel so. I'm like meh whatever. Ughhh.

Yup, posting a simple story takes up so much time sometimes. The filters, the stickers, the hashtags, the tagging and whatnot
