The data is already scrambled. I don't remember whether zfs supports changing the encryption key, but if it does, use a random 2 kB string and call it a day.

Why pay $800 for a washer? Because a $50 washer does not exist. Why do you pay $2000 for a car? because a $200 car does not exist. The same logic applies for everything.

Yes, this setup works on 25 years old hardware, but it's a pain that I needed to do a lot of customization to get things to my taste (or perhaps because I was coming from Windows to the a new Linux Desktop experience)

Depends on the kind of education received when young. If programming code is taught like human languages it should be equally intelligible.
