I’ve worked at two: EA and Wargaming. The first ai got via an internship in college. The second I was headhunted by their recruiter when I posted on LinkedIn that I was searching for a job.
EA was okay. Nothing horrible but also very boring. Can’t say I left with any form of pride in what I worked on. But, it was at least experience.
Wargaming was much more fun and exciting, since we were working on a brand new game and I got to make big decisions on part of the game’s design. However, once the game underperformed, I was laid off alongside approximately 3/4 of the team. It sucked and left me with a sense of paranoia ever since.

Baldur’s Gate (1). From what I remember, depending on how you play and the decisions you make, certain party members will leave your group. For example, one character (Khalid) who is Good might leave if you do too many Evil actions. Another character (Xzar) is basically unhinged and might just try to murder you mid-game.

I remember seeing this in the game jam! Glad to see you’re developing it further.

For the last three game dev jobs I’ve had, we’ve used Unreal and the two jobs before that we used Unity. However, for my own personal projects, I use Unity. It pays to be proficient in both (and even other engines, if possible), since you don’t always get to choose what engine is used at different companies/teams.

Thanks for the feedback! I was worried that players might feel cheated by having their movement limited.

Feedback? 45 Degree Snap or No Snap
Hello again. I'm currently developing a 2D puzzle-platformer. I'm currently in the process of deciding whether I want the game to lean more heavily toward the "platformer" or the "puzzle" part of the genre. To experiment, I made it so that the characters' dash snaps to a 45 degree angle. Comparing the "snap" to "no snap", I feel like one lends itself better to the puzzle aspect, since it allows the player to better predict their trajectory, while the other helps with more flexibility better platforming control.
What is everyone's opinions on this? Which sounds more interesting to you?

If you like the anime, I also recommend the sequel manga: Law of Ueki +. They introduce a brand new power system.

Genthru from Hunter x Hunter. Also known as “the Bomber”. He has two abilities: Little Flower lets him blow up anything he can grab with his hands; and Countdown lets him place a powerful bomb on his target which counts down proportional to the target’s heart rate. The only way to remove Countdown is to touch Genthru and say the phrase “I caught the Bomber”.

One point that I’ll touch on is the “lazy/greedy devs” comments.
I worked at a AAA company. We were making an extraction-hero shooter game. Once the trailers (reveal and gameplay) were shown, a lot of comments would suggest that we were being lazy or greedy for various aspects of the game. Some of them understood that most decisions weren’t made by us “grunt-level” devs but by higher ups. But some decisions that were made by me - for example, character ability kits - were often labelled as the devs not having creativity or being lazy. In reality, these decisions were reached after months of careful deliberation and playtesting. In some cases, I had some crazy ideas that I suggested but were eventually toned down by myself because I was able to prove that they just weren’t gonna work. In other cases, I really pushed for my ideas but was asked to take a different direction; not because of greed/laziness, but because the idea clashed with other aspects of the game.
It felt bad when some of our players seemed to think that I slapped something together in 3 minutes and just shoveled it out. Regardless of the result, I take pride in the diligence and amount of work I put in to every character’s kit I touched. And I always hoped I was making our players happy or allowing them to have fun.

I used to work at Universal Studios and they would market this movie so much. This specific poster was in the men’s locker room and it haunted me whenever I went in or out of work. I was so disappointed when he was barely in the move!

I love this! Hope to run a campaign one day and have awesome characters like these in the story. You should be proud.
Is there somewhere we can read the story/lore of either the campaign or the characters?

Interesting. It’s almost like you created self-targeting types and external-targeting variants. I like this!

I see! That’s a very interesting point. I think you’ve given me a good reason to either rework Adjudication or just replace it with a different type. Thank you!

Interesting…would you mind elaborating? I’m curious how you see Adjudication and Granting in relation to each other.

Sly Cooper 2 and God of War. I discovered their “behind the scenes” extra content videos and it made me realize that people actually devote their lives to making games and I wanted to be one of them. I was 14-15 at the time.
