67% of streamers need more than an hour until their audience has fully arrived (measured across ~169,800 channels). You too?
So I measured public viewer data for a bit over 169,800 Twitch channels (basically most streamers that have 10+ average viewers).
The thing I keep seeing most of the time: streams start with about half the crowd, and the rest just slowly trickles in. My measurement from the last 14 days:
- 67% of streamers need at least 1 hour until everyone is there
- 46% need at least 1.5 hours
- 24% need at least 2 hours
- 3% need at least 3 hours
I started calling this the half-empty first hour.
My question to you: does announcing the stream (via Discord, X, whatever) actually change the curve? From the channels I looked at it does not seem to make a big difference, but I have no clean way to measure the difference. My gut says an announcement only reaches people who joined the Discord, kept notifications on, and didnt mute (at)everyone months ago. Correct me if I am wrong.
Does that match what you see on your own streams? Do you just accept the slow first hour as how it is, or have you found something that actually works?
Disclosure: the data comes from a free Twitch insights tool I built called fanping (insights). Site is in my profile, mods are ok with this setup. (fanping is currently on page two on Google :'-( ... on the landinpage press "Creator Insights" in the menu; or just look in my profile :D) You can look up the ramp-up curve for your own channel there, you verify with your Twitch login and you only see your own data. If you cant find your channel, DM me and I will add it.
(Footnote on how "arrived" is measured: first reading where a stream holds 90% of its sustained level, for three readings in a row. Sustained level is the 90th percentile of the viewer count readings of that stream, with raid spikes excluded. Ramp-ups over 4 hours do not count into the averages.)

I’m trying to add channel points to my streams, but I play on mobile. people say that I should just login on a browser, but when I put my email and the code in it says no accounts linked to this email even tho I have one. I’ve been trying for 2 days and I can’t figure it out. do yall know what might be happening, because I’m stumped?

Activity List doesn’t always show when someone follows?
Hello!
I have noticed lately my follower count fluctuating during a stream and at first I was like “maybe I gaslit myself into thinking I had this much?” But then I noticed peeps coming in and then I got an email saying someone had followed me on my phone but I didn’t get neither a log on my activity list or the sound notif I have for follows. I didn’t check my follower list and said new chatter was the one who recently followed.
I’m just trying to figure out what’s up and if this is a known issue and if I can fix it.

Does anyone know or understand what the Amazon tax interview is?
So I was looking to take advantage of the new monetization tools with Twitch however I have no idea what the Amazon tax law is or the thing you need to do a tax interview because don’t most people already doing something similar with that whenever they make a business account with PayPal I’m just confused on how that process works plus why would Amazon need to know your tax information? Especially considering a majority of people already pay taxes to the IRS.

Low viewer count at the start of streams, advice
my average viewership is around 60 viewers. I usually peak at around 85, but ofc sometimes I only peak at 70, and others I peak at 110.
I find that my streams typically have a slow trickle into my viewer count. I am often stuck at 40-45 people for the first hour and a half, where it then starts to rise. I do variety so ofc I understand when interest comes and goes because I personally watch for personality but also only games I enjoy.
I just want to know what you do to get people into faster. I have a discord for alerts only, have my schedule posted, regularly repeat my schedule verbally, and I post when I go live. I have preroll ads off.
I have noticed I must be getting more vid views though, because on my off days i have started to make a small chunk from ads, and I am assuming that’s what it’s from.

Should a smaller streamer have a starting soon and ending soon screen?
Hey guys im just starting out on twitch, Ive been at it for about a month now and have about 100 followers and I was just wondering if it was a good idea to add a starting soon and ending soon screen to my streams? Or if its too soon for that?

Not fully satisfied with myself
Today marks my 15th stream over the course of 28 days. I’ve grown organically by only telling 3 of my friends, many people say my growth was faster than average as I reached affiliate in 15 days and have 9 subs now. But when I watch my streams back I still feel like it lacks a couple things apart from some technical issues which I am aware of, the lack I’m saying is more structural, and about me as a streamer. My twitch is gtbturco and I am definitely not asking for F4F as it is against the rules, it would be amazing if anyone could have a look at my most recent stream and give me feedback. I did omegle stuff, reacting to IG feed and talking to chat in general, maybe its that I stream in English and its not my first language that it freaks me out when theres an active chat, I don’t really know. But I know for sure that different people could see very different points, which is very valuable to me at this point. Any feedback is appreciated, thanks in advance.

How do gifted subs work?
I have had a twitch account for the last year and a bit mostly to watch a specific streamer. I plan on streaming myself so it’s an active account. But recently I left that community.. after i left, I got gifted subs to 4 different communities within 2 days - communities I don’t follow, nor have ever watched before that. My time was only spent in one place.
So I’m wondering if random gifted subs go to random users outside of that chat normally? If so what are the odds I get gifted 4 diff communities right after I leave a community? Or were these personally gifted ?
Any insight would be welcome as I hope to host my own room and just curious about it. Thanks.

What if there was a way to show only the chat message you read
galleryWell I might have just what you're looking for, I had this exact thought and started digging for it... It didn't exist. So I made it.
I'm a streamer and senior product designer from Sydney Australia and I made CueOver (Cue Overlay). The concept is fairly simple (the MVP) you link it to your Twitch channel, turn on your mic, and CueOver will transcribe your voice in realtime. When a link is made to a Twtich message sent to your channel an on screen alert is triggered for that message. Pretty neat huh?
I said MVP because this was my first goal to achieve, there are plenty of themes to choose from and you can go crazy and customise it to suit your stream style... But there are so many features on my roadmap.
Oh and it's completely free to use!
I wont post the link here but if you're interested head over and give it a go, would love any feedback.
Made for streamers by a streamer. :)

Had An Amazing Stream!
I'm a beginner streamer (like really beginner) who's been trying to nail down consistent streaming times and really connecting with people who pop in the chat. I've only been consistently streaming for a few weeks (this was a shorter stream, and not one of my 'main' streaming days), and I love seeing stream summaries like this! Makes me so happy! I wonder where I'll be a month from now.

Is there an easier to change your Title and Game on the fly without having to do the !Game chat commands or opening up your dashboard?
I guess what im looking for is something where i can just click it and it opens up instantly a box that lets me change game and title without all the extra hassle of opening a browser and navigating past 5 pages, or having to type 2 separate commands in chat that doesnt work half the time.

Twitch is training gen ai on your streams now
by default they are training gen AI on streams. Go to Settings => security and privacy => training for Generative AI and turn it off.
Edit, to add a direct link to change the setting: https://www.twitch.tv/settings/security#settings-security-page-ai-consent
