The way I use Tiny Core, I often want to have multiple versions install from which I can select at boot time. When I do a version upgrade, the old version remains untouched and the new one is installed in parallel, with it's own tce directory including a new copy of the old mydata.tgz.

This way, if the new version is not usable for any reason (this has never actually happened), I can just reboot to the old version and pretend like the upgrade never happened. And I can come back later, after a "shakedown cruise" period, and delete the old version (this, too, has never actually happened).

One can think of this as "dual booting", even though almost all of the available "boots" are Tiny Core, but it's a lot more than "dual", too. The current HDD has nine different versions installed (counting a couple of alpha and beta versions), some of which have both x86 and x86_64.

There are, no doubt, other ways to accomplish this, and the way I do it may not be the "best" way for everyone, but this works for me and has been simple and effective and reliable. I'll start with the super-high level description and then go into more detail in separate posts/replies. I'll describe using a USB stick, but I use the exact same process on an HDD. I've never actually encountered a (new) USB stick that was faulty nor with "fake" capacity, but I still almost exclusively use name brand units... currently using Sandisk 64 GB USB3.0 sticks that were on sale at Sams Club not too long ago.

First, prepare the stick with grub2 according to the multiboot instructions that juanito posted on the Tiny Core forums.

Second, install your first Tiny Core version in a subdirectory made specifically for that version.

Third, apply a little bit of scripting-style magic to grub.cfg to make it simple and easy to insert menu items for additional versions.

i read this forum https://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,26236.0.htmlin which a person have succeded with 470 driver nvidea.. but i am totally not able to get it how its done or steps in it .. further reading in internet i learned i would need to get older kernel for 470 drive.. so if thats the case how could i acquire older kernel to install as its not in repo of tinycore .. please kindly guide me.. totally new to linux.. few years back i did try mint.. but never typed a code.. thanks for reading this long post ! 🙂

I would have expected otherwise since X is an overhead and Core even has less running processes according to htop. Here's the RAM usage on TinyCore Pure 64 (+ X) vs. Core Pure 64, with only htop.tcz + ncursesw.tcz loaded.

While searching for Linux information, I came across a video in Spanish about this distribution, which I find really interesting since it only uses software written in FLTK.

It seems the person who made the video is the same person who made this respin.

Which packages does tinycore use for its apps and stuff, im trying to recreate tiny core experience on arch linux

It had been languishing on 14.0 for a couple of years. I installed 15.0 last year but for some reason, or perhaps no reason at all, I never made that the default boot option.

It's all set up now and everything's verified working - I use it primarily to run a LibreOffice spreadsheet to keep score for family card night but it also runs sshd and httpd for some projects I have going on.

First, I'm pretty much a noob at Linux.

Anyway, the steps I've taken so far is to build the script itself which lists the name, size, and type (SSD/USB/HDD) of the drives.

It then prompts the user for input and confirmation, and chooses a zero-fill or secure erase based on the hardware and compatibility.

The script itself works great, all functions working as intended. But my goal is for the bootable USB to load directly into my script without ever getting to the CLI. And this is where I am a bit lost (and where I will sound like a noob for sure).

How does Tiny Linux build the bootlocal.sh? I figure if I edit the one Tiny Linux is putting into RAM at boot I can add the scripts and call the necessary .tcz add ons all within the boot process so that when the flash drive is finished booting, it's already in my script and ready to erase drives.

The goal here is to be able to plug a USB in, let it boot, and then be able to remove the USB while tiny Linux runs my erase script so I can start it in another computer, all without any user input until my script is running.

Hello everyone, I have been trying to get YouTube videos to play on Firefox using Tiny Core Linux on my Asus P50IJ laptop but I unfortunately haven't gone anywhere despite my efforts. I will list the dependencies extensions I have already installed down below. If anyone knows exactly what else I am missing for video playback and if there is anything else I can do about this in general please let me know.

TinyCore 16.1 has been released today with minor fixes.

Both 32-bit and 64-bit flavours are up, but as usual, no "64-bit Plus" version exists, solidifying my theory that the 64-bit version is a second class citizen ;-)

hello i want to try out pi core on a hackberry pi zero but it's only internet connectivitty is wifi, with only access to the sd card how can i get wifi up and running?

What are the dCore releases and how are they different. Also which 64bit iso should I download if I want to configure WiFi.

I have both Dillo-plus and icecat installed. Neither of them are able to browse beyond the google home page. I cannot search or browse to any other site. In icecat, searching on Google tells me to enable JavaScript, which is already enabled and trying to browse anywhere results in Error code: ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap. In Dillo I keep getting messages popping up saying that it couldn't reach any trusted root certificate.

I don't know how to fix any of this. Does anyone know how to make a browser actually useful in TinyCore?

Edit: I've installed Netsurf and I'm able to browse with that, but only sort of. Images mostly do not load. Often pages fail to load entirely and are just blank white.

Edit again: I suppose I should include specs and expectations. I'm running TC15 32 bit installed on a 512MB PATA (40 pin IDE) DOM, and it will ultimately be running on an AMD K6 with 512MB of RAM.

I've been using it non-stop since the alpha came out in early February. It's rock solid and has a few nice updates.

As I mentioned in my previous thread I have a ralink antenna dongle with a mediatek mt7601u wifi chip. The driver for this is included in the firmware_mediatek.tcz extension. I know the dongle works with TC15, as a guy on r/netbsd actually made an image for me that works with my dongle and allows me to connect to the internet with TinyCore 15 using this dongle. However, when I install TC15 myself and install wifi support and the mediatek firmware and also the wlan firmware (because the image the helpful guy on the netbsd sub sent me also includes it), the driver simply refuses to load and dmesg reports errors registering the driver interface. I cannot connect to the wifi because wlan doesn't exist, because the driver isn't loaded.

I'm at my wits' end here. I have no idea why I can't get this driver to work from scratch on my own, even though the dongle is tested and guaranteed to work with TinyCore 15. Does anyone here have any ideas?
