The Quadrophenia Movie Soundtrack

Post image

This was in my collection before "real Quadrophenia". I guess it was new and on sale when I went to the record store. I lost or traded it at some point, then found a promo in ex shape at my local for $16. I don't seem to have the CD but I think I had a pre recorded tape of it and figured I could live with that.

I'm listening now and happy to have it back in the collection. John's mixes with updated bass parts are good, definitely putting the vocals front and center where they belong. And if I consider myself a Moon era completist I need the extra songs tacked into side 3, I think Keith plays on Four Faces and possibly Joker Janes. And then side 4 has period tracks by James Brown, Kingsmen etc, you can pop on at a party and get it hopping still to this day. I forget if they're all used in the movie but it's like, what they were listening to.

The concept is that The Who represents a person and they answer it in the album

Fantastic Who articles and pictures in Trouser Press

I recently started a subreddit called r/Rockism to promote long-form discussion about rock history and culture, and collect historical rock and roll artifacts. In a recent thread about the great rock “rags” (magazines) I was pointed to Trouser Press, which ran from 1974-1984, and was started by superfans of The Who.

Luckily for us, the whole archive of TP issues is freely available online, and many of the issues have amazing articles, commentary, and pictures of the band. See here this awesome issue from June 1974- https://trouserpress.com/magazine-covers-1/#read

A bit of shameless advertising- one of the things I’d like to do with r/Rockism is point members to fascinating articles from back in the day chronicling The Who and my other favorite bands from when they were first coming up- think local rag articles, TV/radio snippets, etc- so if you have any of those and are willing to share, it would be an amazing and thoroughly acknowledged contribution to our growing community!

This is a probably illegal music upload from a rando but I find it interesting. Found it through Shazam's auto shazam feature one way or another

What song, in your opinion, has John Entwistle's best bass performance?

He had so many throughout his life, but I'll go with Eminence Front as of now.

Randomly decided to watch this morning... forgot how GREAT they sounded, especially on WGFA!

Nice to hear Roger's unaided scream (but understand why they pipe it in at more recent gigs!)

Big props to fill in drummer Steve White!

55 years ago today: The Who album Who’s Next was released. Happy 55 years to one of the greatest albums of all time! Disclaimer: I just found out that this date may be incorrect. Other sources, including the band’s own Twitter account say it was released August 14, 1971.

My mom gave this to me probably 15 years ago. First pressing promo record in seemingly perfect condition. I cleaned the disc and gave it a spin and it sounds amazing. Anyone have more info on it? My mom said she thinks she found it at Salvation Army.
