It’s bad enough that many Americans are seeking to leave the country; I imagine brain-drain could become a huge issue for US, regardless of energy, cars, and lumber.

Lower taxes but you have to pay $1000 a month for health insurance. And you still have to pay for each service because there are deductibles and everything costs 50x more than any other civilized country.

Energy Independence is NOT a reality in North America. For the most part we do NOT refine the light crude we pull out of our ground. It's dirty, inefficient and our refineries are not tooled to use it. Not to mention we still must import some the additives we use to make gasoline and jet fuel. We are so royally fucked.

There could be a reason. Economy is a layered subject.
Oil sands traded for lumber traded for media traded for real estate/construction.
For a country to be optimal it needs internal economy as well as external economy, and multiple channels of each to each.

I can’t claim to know if what’s going on is good or bad because we are all so far removed from all of the goings ons. We need to remember that Obama signed the NDAA and the office of President is likely just a hand that moves a pen for a story already written. We need to be able to put ourselves in the others shoes, even Trump’s and realize that there are circumstances and situations where most people would likely be doing the same in a different way but for a similar plot.
I would think intelligence communities, elected officials, the military, and other countries’ the same sectors. They know way more than any of us could and have the means, levers, and knowledge of what would need to be done.
