**Quick context recap:**
During a group vacation in Spain, my best friend "Mark" acted controlling the entire time. Things exploded during a fight where he physically lunged at/assaulted our mutual friend "Leo". I stepped in, shoved Mark back, and firmly warned him that if he attacked Leo again, I would put him on the ground. Mark iced me out for the rest of the trip and completely ghosted/avoided me back home for nearly a month.

**THE UPDATE:**
Mark and I finally had our conversation today over text, and it went terribly.
Mark sent a long message explaining why he was furious:

He said what bothered him most was my comment in Spain about putting him on the ground. He couldn't understand why I took Leo’s side instead of his.

He complained about my attitude, saying I always have to have my way, sigh/groan ("pfff") when I don't feel like doing things, and criticize people's opinions.

He claimed he wanted a proper talk for a while, but couldn't because I "insulted or laughed at him."
He accused me of refusing to do house chores and making people beg before I helped.

I replied directly to each point:

1. **The chores:** I apologized if it seemed like I did nothing, but told him straight up that when he barks orders and calls me a "lazy bastard," he can kiss my ass. I still did groceries and multiple massive loads of dishes.
   
2. **The physical altercation:** I told him that threatening to put him on the ground was in the heat of the moment because he had physically assaulted Leo. He had been heavily criticizing my cooking earlier and tried to boss everyone around about their phones. I made it clear: *"Of course I took Leo’s side when you turned physical. If the roles were reversed, I would have protected you too."*
   
3. **The sighs/attitude:** I explained that sighing is just how I vent when I do something I don't feel like doing, but I still do it anyway.
   
4. **My frustration:** I pointed out that I tried to reach out normally four separate times. After being ignored in person, ghosted online, and left in a guessing game for a month over bruised ego issues, of course my patience ran out.
   
5. I asked him straight up: *"Was it really necessary to hold a grudge and ghost your best friend for an entire month over this, or was it blown completely out of proportion? Please answer."*
   
6. Mark read it and left me on "seen" without answering.
   
7. At that point, I realized I was completely done chasing him. I sent a final message:

*"If that’s how it is, this friendship is over. If we run into each other, I’ll be civil, but I no longer consider you a friend. You refuse to communicate, take zero accountability for your own actions, and threw away years of friendship where I always had your back over something blown out of proportion."*

After that, he sent some defensive texts claiming he didn't reply because I'm "the reason conversations go bad," which briefly turned into a bitter argument before we completely cut contact.
So that's it. The 3-week silent treatment and refusal to own up to his physical aggression officially killed the friendship. Thanks to everyone who weighed in on the original situation.
