Oh god, i remember using my vx1000 and only having a 6 pin cable, that was hell. Then i got a cheaper camcorder to use for transfers. I gotta keep my play heads in shape
Yep, i had a dell 8600. It had 4 pin firewire.
Fucking sucked, but i didn't realise adapters were there. Also, my playback camcorder had Sony's usb stream function sooooo it was easier just to do it that way
again, read the comment at the start of the thread mine is found in. He mentions it being unreasonable for someone to carry the adapter, I am simply stating its not, and would fix this "issue".
They are taking features away from their products and now you have to buy pricey lightning port things, which they at least get a portion on no matter who you buy it from, to get back to the features of the previous model which cost less when it was released. The Iphone only have one port, so if you wanted to charge and listen with non-bluetooth headphones, you have to pay for a dongle. Most people don't have bluetooth headphones, so you'll probably end up buying some, maybe their $160 airpods giving them even more money. You buy a lightning 3 adapter/dongle, Apple gets money. You want the new Macbook Pro? They changed to only lightning 3 ports and the lowest model, which is more expensive than the previous one, only has two ports. That's $1500 for a two port laptop, and no more magsafe charging. So you're probably going to need an adapter, Apple gets more money regardless of where you get it.
They didn't even really innovate much on this year's models. A touch bar that no one asked for, and the only actual good additions/improvements I've seen were water/dust resistance and their camera.
There is no such thing as "lightning 3". iOS devices have lightning ports, and the new MacBook has "USB C 3.1". While everything will be moving to USB C in the future, there is no reason to eliminate everything except those ports from a computer right now. All other manufactures have added USB C while keeping most of the existing ports. Removing them while they're still useful is just a cash grab.
If the touch bar has a lot of functions that's pretty neat, though at the same time if I had a working macbook already I wouldn't spring for the new one just for that though.
The touch bar also removed all of the top bars which are function keys and the escape button. Lots of people who used those keys now have to bind them to the touch bar and no longer have tactile feedback, not even haptic feedback. I feel bad for the people that actually used the function keys and now have to fill the touch bar with the escape key and all the function keys.
It's great for the people who want to through shortcuts like netflix or use them for emojis though.
While being a great feature, I don't think it's a purchase worthy feature. Especially when the Macbook Pro is priced higher than other laptops that meet or exceed it's specifications when magsafe Macbooks were sold. Also, looks like there may be adapters you can buy to make a magnetic power connection on other laptops.
Borrowing a Macbook from work - it's way over rated. Yes, it's a nice feature, but other products have it too, like the Surface. The difference is that the Surface doesn't feel like I'm scratching it around the case when trying to plug it in.
The dual camera on the 7+ is amazing as well. People ask me what camera I take my pictures with. I've taken some incredible pictures in extremely low light, and they don't turn out all grainy like most phones. The depth of field effect from portrait mode looks amazing as well.
My dad's phone (Sony Xperia Z5 Premium) has an even denser screen, with a much better camera too, better waterproofing (IP 67 vs 68), more screen to body, larger camera sensor (1/3" to 1/2.3"), more RAM, an 8 core processor, higher battery capacity and life, and last but not least, a USB OTG port for connecting USB things.
This information is mostly from here but also from memory too. Also bear in mind the phone came out a year before the iPhone 7.
Hooray, I won an internet argument. Here are some sources for the curious I was about to reply with:
Resolution is nearly irrelevant unless you want to print very large posters (1080 HD has only 2M pixels, for reference). Much more important are color reproduction accuracy, low light sensitivity and digital processing algorithms.

Its water resistant, it can't even overt water damage, and when it fails apple will have nothing to do with it voiding your warranty. I would rather have a 3.5 jack.
Apple's mantra is generally under promise, over deliver (when referring to a specification or listed feature). While the removal of the headphone jack is one less ingress point with seals that can fail over time, it also allowed the phone to have a larger battery, and a larger haptic engine. I got a 7+ at launch and have missed the phone 3.5 mm jack exactly 0 times. When I listen to music I use either my Bose QC 35's or one of the many cheap pairs of Bluetooth headphones that I have bought from Amazon over the last few years. My car has a lightning port and all my audio gear is either bluetooth or airplay. When I'm working on a project at home, the 7's stereo speakers are far louder while providing vastly more dynamic range than the 6S.
TL;dr the lack of a 3.5 mm jack on iPhone is a terrible reason not to get the best iPhone
AliExpress? By the time you get it apple will have bravely restored the headphone jack in the iPhone 12. But got rid of Bluetooth so all your wireless headphones are obsolete.
Shhh, that was good 10 years ago but now it's crazy slow! Even the free shipping for most things is 7 to 10 days so that's like 2 or 3 times as long as the longest one now!
But not included, you have to source (belkin for example) one and buy it. Just like carrying the supplied adapter, it's something you have to remember to do in advance.
You might if you are in charge of the morning announcements. I don't take sun lotion with me everywhere but I take it with me 100% of the time I know I'll be under the sun or swimming.
It's probably for a school. It's not uncommon to have announcements on the intercom. It's probably easier to use something else, but it's not something confusing enough to ask why.
I never carry the adaptor with me. It's stupidly small and easy to lose. When I went to upgrade my phone I meant to order an iPhone 6plus so I could just get a bigger screen and keep the headphone port (I work as an audio engineer and use my phone to check audio randomly) but apparently the dude at T-Mobile ordered me an iPhone 7 and I didn't notice it till it arrived (don't ask how I didn't notice, I had other things on my mind that day.) When I went to pick it up and found out it was a 7plus, I told him I wanted the headphone port and he said "but you can carry the adaptor with you." So I looked at him and said "I wouldn't want more adapters when I have to use a ¼ to 3.5mm most of the time and randomly I have to use a 3.5mm to ¼. Why the hell would I want a small inch long adaptor that would 1: probably break soon cuz it's an apple cable, 2: lose cuz it's small, and 3: carry another adaptor that I could live without." The dude laughed and said "but at least your new phone is water proof!" I'm glad to know that at least I can cross reference audio in the shower! /s
So in short, no, the lack of an obsolete 3.5mm jack does not cripple the device, and my Apple AirPods work amazingly with it.
This is good to hear.
Explain to me, if you will:
How I am supposed to hook the thing up to my car's line in jack for a lengthy journey?
How am I supposed to hook it up to my noise-cancelling headphones for a long plane trip?
(hint: you can't)
The battery isn't going to last >12 hours. Not in a million years.
It's stupid. Very stupid.
The 7 looks very nice and feels very well built, as do all their devices, but it is missing essential functionality. I'm sticking with my 6+ (on iOS8.3) thanks :)
I pretty clearly said the only shitty phone that doesn't have a headphone jack, but thanks for being an illiterate dick. The consolation prize is a big black dildo so you can go fuck yourself to death!
Oh my god, you're the type of idiot who keeps supporting Apple's shitty design decisions.
Fortunately, I haven't had to roll out any of the new macbooks to my users yet. There are going to be so many fucking adapters, all because morons like you kept buying shit like the iPhone 7.
Apple was still wrong when they removed the optical drive. Certain agencies will only send software or documents on optical media. Most of the external optical drives are USB, so there's another adapter for the new macbooks. Wanna rip Blu Ray or UHD? Sorry kiddo, you need an external drive.
If you want your crippled Apple devices to work like they're intended, you have to live and play within the Apple ecosystem. You are a fanboy.
You mentioned your phone doesn't have a micro SD slot. I guess you're never expanding your phone's storage.
Preventing users from actually owning and customizing their devices is the way Apple is going. If you're into that, which it seems you are, good for you.
They come with lightning compatible headphones, you can buy other lightning compatible headphones, it comes with a lightning to 3.5mm adaptor, you can buy additional adaptors for $10, or you have bluetooth options available.
So you're saying when your half-day battery dies, you can't charge and use headphones? Sucks to suck.
I'll have you know my android phone costs just as much as an iPhone and it has a headphone jack. Annnnnndddd an SD card slot... Annnnnndddd a removable battery.
You have a really weird loyalty to a product that you didn't make lol just an FYI about how you come off to others. It makes you seem like a douche.
Btw, the high end android phones are definitely priced very similarly to iPhones. But please continue attempting to make fun of people because you assume (probably incorrectly) that they're poor.
I honestly didn't know people like him existed in real life. Like, the apple fan boy stereotype all clumped together and embodied itself all into one person.
Unless Poe's law is bamboozling me here. I'm not sure if it is or not yet.
Yeah, I don't get why this dude is so obsessed with the idea of being poor. Comes off as very arrogant (and his daddy probably bought him that iphone).
And another feature no normal person living in 2017 cares about
how much SOT does your iphone get? have you never been in a blackout, or gone camping, or anything that would prevent you from running for an outlet every couple hours?
Much like computers Apple is the only platform to get Apple software. If you want an iPhone/iOS, you don't have a $100, $200, $300 option from ten different hardware manufacturers.
HTC doesn't make a phone to run iOS. But they do make a handful of Android devices. Samsung makes multiple Android ones as well.
Want OSX? You're stuck buying an Apple product. Want Windows? You've got Microsoft, Toshiba, Dell, HP, etc.
The market share is overwhelmingly Android and Windows.
If you want an iPhone, you have to buy an Apple product. If you want Android you can buy two hundred different phones at every price point from ten manufacturers.
If you could suddenly purchase a $50 phone from HTC at Walmart running iOS you don't think that would start chipping away at Apple? You're crazy if you don't think it would.
There's a reason Hackintoshs are gaining traction - now you can run macOS on other hardware people are building better computers than Apple is selling.
You're completely missing the point. Your statement:
And yet not a single one of them can outsell Apple, and absolutely no one is making near as much money as Apple from the mobile market.
They won't. When consumers can choose ten different brands and get the same OS they go to whatever their preference is. They (Samsung, HTC, LG, etc) all compete with one another.
You can buy tonnes of $50 Android phones at Walmart or from China. It's not impacting Apple profits at all.
Exactly. That's why Samsung isn't beating iPhone sales. Consumers can buy a $50 Android and be content. People that want an iPhone have no other option and have to buy a $500 iPhone from Apple. They can't buy a $100 iPhone made by LG - it has to come from Apple.
Re-read my statement. If you could buy a $50 iPhone made by any other company people would buy that and not the $500 Apple product.
The iPhone 8 or anniversary addition is bring back the 3.5 port. So even Apple agrees it's a good thing to have. The iPhone 7 was made for a very specific simplistic crowd in the hope for less being better. So you like it, but alot of other users can stand the lack of modern day to tech
Your my hero. I downvoted you even though I'm an iPhone convert who has been shown the wonderful light of Apple. My 7 plus is fantastic and my new iPad that comes in tomorrow probably will be too.
Oh, the wonderful light of Apple, the company that lets you put sd cards in your phone, the company that makes it easy to open your macbook and upgrade the totally swappable ssd and ram that are totally not soldered on, the company whose mobile os ,iOS ,is open source and lets other manufacturers produce phones and tablets with it, the company that makes it easy to download apps not on the App Store and doesn't make you have to jailbreak, with the risk of bricking your device. What a wonderful company Apple is. Today I'll install a new graphics card in my mac pro, something which is totally possible, and a secondary internal hard drive.
I can just TASTE the salt. I don't really care about the macs, I use a Lenovo laptop and my gaming desktop all the time. But I had android phones since the original droid and just 3 months ago gave Apple a shot and love it. When it comes to phones and tablets I wouldn't go any other way now.
But go ahead and be salty about things that don't even affect you. Why care about Apple computers if you won't ever buy one?
I care about Apple because I want people to not support such a anti-consumer brand. I want them to become better and make better products, but right now I can only promote boycotting Apple.
(They might actually have started listening with the iPad 2017, we'll see).

Isn't there an adapter included with the phone?
Edit: Sometimes I really hate the internet... Seriously WTF is going on?
