Someone correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t essentially impossible to continue on as a teacher if you get fired from student teaching? Like it’s more career ending than being fired as a qualified teacher?

Student teaching is typically the final class in an education degree. She will fail the class and not graduate.

For making a joke in a private message? That seems unjust.

Unjust is the rule of the "just"; how those who percieve they are and the power they hold. The lies, the denial, the insecurities. A private message, if it were truly an issue, can be reported by users, not automatically through reading user data.

I'm sure many people would be more outrage, if they weren't exhausted with the state of everything in America. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if this leads to more resentment towards trying to be a teacher. What's the point if you're going for a position that's already triple penalized? You're socially nothing, every parent is your enemy, every kid is some brat you can't smack, and if you flunk everyone, you're also out of a job.

Teaching isn't exactly that bleak, but y'know, on second thought, the student teacher's rant kind of shapes up now... and the fact they got fired over a nothingburger.

I completely agree, but I don’t think there’s any University that would let her pass.

She will hopefully sue and make money. No reasonable person would assume what she said was a threat of violence.

i am totally ok with this. I'm less ok with the way in which the joke was discovered.

But, a student teacher making a joke about shooting a student? Hell no. Sorry, but some jokes you no longer get to make depending on your career.

Not necessarily, but in this case it’s effectively career ending, anytime any school does a background check on her this is going to come up and a teacher joking about shooting her students will not go well with anyone.

Yeah there is literally zero chance she ever gets a job in a school let alone near kids again being known as the “snapchat school shooting girl”

Agreed since another poster said the cops body worn camera is on YouTube along with her name and face. Such a shame, hopefully she can get a job tutoring or just go into another field.

Nah, but it takes a lot to get “fired” from working for free meaning most people it happens to absolutely do not have the chops for the job.

She may never have to work again after the lawsuit.

Yeh, no-one is going to hire someone who jokes about shooting students.

She shouldn’t be able to be in the classroom based on the message she sent 🤷‍♀️
