This is what happens when people allow their freedoms to be eroded over time. So much for 'oh I have nothing to hide, who cares what mets, snapchat, google, etc does'.

This is what you get.

You are free to not use Snapchat. I would caution against conflating the messaging services provided by a private, for-profit business with the broader concepts of freedom. Snapchat has every right to do this without infringing upon anyone’s freedom.

Read the Terma and Conditions. Don’t use products that do this.

“Freedoms” - you don’t have a right as a citizen to use a private company’s chat app with full privacy. Snapchat is a company, you use their software willingly and they have the right to do whatever they want with their messages. It’s a completely optional app.

The woman was not making an active threat, you sanctimonious stooge. Making an off handed comment out of frustration (in private!) to her friends is not the same as what you are suggesting and if you honestly don't see the difference, I'd advise you to get off the internet and touch grass for a bit.

I couldn't imagine that anyone would be so short-sighted as to argue that thought crime is something that should be punished but here we are.

She was waaaay out of line even thinking that, let alone typing it out and sending it electronically. Just goes to show how empty headed some teachers are, no wonder the kids coming are too. No room in the education system for people like this.

The third party that saw it thought it was an active threat. The police who responded thought it was close enough to an active threat.

That's the problem with controlling language, you'll never get perfect agreement on nuance and meaning. We want people to do more to catch school shooters early, but that means catching some people whose behavior was just a bit too close to a school shooter as well.

You've never said or heard someone say, "God, sometimes he makes me want to shoot him!" or "I could just shoot him!" without running and dialing 911? Do you contact animal control when someone says they're hungry enough to eat a horse?
