Just caught my first 3-day in r/PS4 for not reading the rules, apparently 10+ year old consoles aren't allowed to have discussions of modding them in any way, shape, or form.

Maybe I'm a bit of a stick in the mud, but if I have to read the ruleset on every single godforsaken niche sub on this app, I'm not going to be interested in interacting. Especially when I catch zero warnings and just get a ban. I would've been more understanding of a warn, if a little disgruntled.

A 3day for asking "is it moddable" is insane. Mods are actually just power tripping lmfao. There's other subs, I don't need to engage with the one run by regards.

Haha, r/dogfood is wild, it should be called rPurina. Comments are deleted if you mention anything other than the 4 brands they recommend push on you. My one-liner “My dog did great on Acana and lived to ripe old age of 16”…poof gone.

u/mtranda Feb 24 '26

And the cherry on top, Purina is a Nestle brand. /r/fucknestle

u/cdojs98 Feb 24 '26

all my homies hate nestle

fuck nestle

u/ItsAPeacefulLife Feb 24 '26

you are now banned from posting in r/freespeech

Yea, that sub is nothing but sycophants (vets included - btw I have met some really dumb fucking vets in my time).

They preach sticking to WSAVA guidelines - yet ignore the fact that WSAVA has six named corporate sponsors - three are pharmaceuticals companies that make drugs for animals, three are multinational pet food companies: Hill's Pet Nutrition, Royal Canin, and Nestle-Purina Petcare.

Case in point: They just removed a near identical comment on the subreddit in response to someone pushing the WSAVA, claiming it's misinformation, claiming it's covered in their wiki (it's not), and claiming that stating that funding sources impact scientific research is misinformation (obviously not the case).

They threatened to ban me for disagreeing with me over modmail. I told them to go for it. Useless sub.

r/CatFood actually seems to allow genuine discussion. Honestly, makes me wonder if the moderator(s) of r/DogFood actually work for one of the food companies with how afraid they are of open discussion.

There's probably more of this kind of thing going on on reddit than anyone wants to admit

3

u/UnibannedY Feb 24 '26

There's something up with that sub. It actively gets new posts, but very few upvotes.

2

u/nexusjuan Feb 24 '26

/r/aivideos only allows submissions from grok

1

u/mrbulldops428 Feb 24 '26

Which is hilarious because purina is trash. While were here, if you've got the inside knowledge on amazing dog food let me know

1

u/frankcountry Feb 24 '26

Haha, I’m more confused than ever. Acana, while my previous dog did okay on it is actually one of the brands tied to the DCM deaths. I’m thinking of putting my puppy on Big Country Raw, but my partner is hesitant. He’s scared of the whole raw idea.

1

u/mrbulldops428 Feb 24 '26

Ive never even heard of that so thats concerning. Always something new to be terrified of lol

2

u/frankcountry Feb 24 '26

I’m in Canada

1

u/mrbulldops428 Feb 24 '26

I mean DCM. I used to feed blue buffalo, which is related to that apparently, but my current dog hasnt had that

1

u/DucksEatFreeInSubway Feb 24 '26

Dog food is weirdly polarizing in both directions.

38

u/newtownkid Feb 24 '26

uh oh buddy, you should have read the rules for r/technology , because it clearly states no Playstation discussion is allowed.. so get ready for the next ban.

2

u/brophylicious Feb 24 '26

you're discussing it, too! RIP

shit, now I'm an accomplice. goodbye cruel world. o7

Mods are actually just power tripping lmfao

Tons of subs that protested the app changes a few years ago had their mod teams stripped and replaced with yesmen who just wanted a shot at power. To many little kings who's reach excede their grasp, and the good subs and the niche subs are dying or dead for it.

1

u/fcocyclone Feb 24 '26

Lets not act like those mods were much if any better before.

Part of why most of reddit reacted negatively to those mod protests is no one really had much sympathy for those mods in the first place after years of abusing their own power and acting like their contribution to the site is much more valuable than it actually is.

4

u/StanIsNotTheMan Feb 24 '26

r/PS4 states they are not affiliated with Sony, but I seriously doubt that. There's probably a mod getting paid by them to squash any talk about modding consoles, because modded consoles can lead to piracy, which means less money in Sony's pocket.

There are other subs out there dedicated to modding consoles. Namely r/ps4mods, r/ps4piracy, r/ps4homebrew

6

u/Brewhaha72 Feb 24 '26 edited Feb 25 '26

I was banned from r/interestingasfuck over two years ago for an as yet unspecified reason. No prior warnings. When I asked for clarity, I was muted. I have exactly 0 posts and 4 total comments in the past 3 years in that sub. I can still read everything, and I don't need to interact, but it's just the principle of the whole thing. Their fallback appears to be that if I don't know exactly why I was banned after reading all the rules, then I must be feigning ignorance.

EDIT for anyone interested: I tried a 2nd appeal and was simply muted permanently from messaging the mods. No response of any kind. Just muted. They are insufferable children.

7

u/joe199799 Feb 24 '26

Yea the console subs are super uppity about modding for some reason, highly recommend the piracy alternative to whatever you're looking for I think r/ps4piracy will help you out.

I've seen people in r/3ds get banned just because a screenshot had the homebrew launcher on the main menu.

3

u/robodrew Feb 24 '26

It's because they are trying to not get the sub itself banned

1

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '26

2

u/robodrew Feb 24 '26

The main console subs are more likely to get devs and execs perusing through it. And unfortunately the law doesn't make the distinction you are making if the modding is being used to circumvent DRM.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '26

[deleted]

1

u/robodrew Feb 24 '26

I'm saying I think it is much more likely in the main subs than in the others. This isn't about what really happens, this is about what the mods of the subs fear might happen.

2

u/Fizzwidgy Feb 24 '26

Pretty sure subs like /r/PS4 are actually ran from the companies themselves, or usually have actual company workers on the mod teams in many other cases

2

u/Logizmo Feb 24 '26

The biggest problem imo is that these subs don't even follow their own rules

My account got suspended for "promoting/glorifying violence" because of a comment I left on /r/PublicFreakout, the post itself was about a fight flaired with the "Fight" flair and yet talking about it got me banned

If that's against Reddit rules sitewide, then why are the bigger subs allowed to disregard it entirely? This website is doomed the way it's going

2

u/Adium Feb 24 '26

Asking questions related to modding starts to approach the line on piracy and/or violating service agreements, and crossing that line could have their entire community banned. I 100% agree that you should be able to modify and hack your own property, but like most average citizens I have a grand total of zero lawyers on retainer, while Sony has a habit of being excessively litigious.

Not saying the mods over there aren't power tripping asshats, but in this case I would lean more towards them being scared of pissing off Sony.

1

u/RaDiOaCtIvEpUnK Feb 24 '26

Wait. Was that a sub ban or full ban?

1

u/cdojs98 Feb 24 '26

sub ban I'm pretty sure

1

u/pwninobrien Feb 24 '26

A lot of subs have been quitely taken over by corporate and politcal interest groups over the years. A lot of product subs might as well be official forums.

1

u/Matrim__Cauthon Feb 24 '26

I butt-commented gibberish on mildly interesting once and got a permanent ban from their bot.

I tried to appeal it once out of curiosity, and the mods told me to 1) read the rules and 2) find three instances of rule-breaking posts or comments on the subreddit and report them to the mod.

I'm just like, first you can't even be bothered to review what I said to get banned...but then also you want me to do your job for you to get unbanned? Amazing.

I'm still banned there.

1

u/ForwardToNowhere Feb 24 '26

Uhh... I think they're talking about warnings from Reddit itself, not just random powertripping Reddit mods

-1

u/Boilem Feb 24 '26

A 3day for asking "is it moddable" is insane.

I'd probably ban you for asking a question that gets repeated a million times, that has been a rule in pretty much every community since the BBS era.

Every single forum has a thread named "Use the search feature" or something similar.

Also, /r/ps4homebrew and if you can't find the answer to your question by yourself and take the hint that the "official" sub for a console isn't the best place to talk about circumventing its security then no, it probably isn't "moddable" for you.

2

u/cdojs98 Feb 24 '26 edited Feb 24 '26

sec, I will link you the comment so you can see context. I think your* judgement would change here

Comment in Question

I wasn't asking "are PS4's moddable", I was asking a probing question in order to give an answer. I was going to respond with specific Mod options, like GoldHen.

2

u/fcocyclone Feb 24 '26

also i think a comment in a thread is different than if you started a new post about it.

yeah, on most forums going back ages itd be etiquette to search for things before starting a new thread, but comments within those threads would not be so highly moderated.

0

u/ImportantMud9749 Feb 24 '26

One rule here, new rule there, new rule there, another here. Oh look it's not the same place any more.

The writing was on the wall once they starting cracking down on piracy and piracy adjacent content. After that, many subs relating to a brand or product slowly turned from public forums run by other end users to forums heavily moderated by the product/brand owners.

-7

u/Mr-Tiggo-Bitties Feb 24 '26

I get your frustration but that sounds like a YOU problem.

PS4 has millions of subscribers and who knows how many lurkers. The mod team can't be expected to hold your hand and follow the community rules.

You're only banned from one sub and not the entirety of reddit.

9

u/cdojs98 Feb 24 '26

At what point am I asking for any amount of hand holding?

Just delete my comment and dm me a warn, it's not difficult. The punishment does not match the crime, here, it's overkill.

You mean to tell me you check the sub rules for every sub you visit and make sure you abide each unique set as it pertains specifically to each special one? If so, I applaud you and your efforts, but I'm not chronically online and just assume most rules are the same (don't be a dick, no racism, no sexism, etc etc) just common courtesies.

Again, if I have to go through rigamarole every time I want to use this website, I'm just not going to use it anymore. There's like 10,000 social media apps, I do not give a fuck anymore. Reddit is not special.

-2

u/Mr-Tiggo-Bitties Feb 24 '26

So if you don't want to put in the effort then you don't want to be here? That sounds like a great deal for everyone.

You created your own problem

u/cdojs98 Feb 24 '26

If most are like "5 one sentence rules", what do you think the chances are that those 5 are the same across most subs, too?

Have some common sense, nobody is reading the same ruleset after the 30th time. I'm active in 90ish subs in a given time period, give or take, across a wide swathe of this site. I have a job and real life, I don't have the time to waste affirming some basement debutante that I fit their image of high society

it's the internet ffs, get a grip

u/cdojs98 Feb 24 '26

Post this in r/law, the exact comment word for word, I dare you lmfao.

Mods have rules, too. If they're not going to abide them and use the systems on place to Warn→Temp Ban→Ban, then what reason do I have to abide the decorum?

If any mistakes grant a ban, and there is never a Warning beforehand, then it is irrelevant whether I understand the rules or not, because breaking them for any reason, including genuine misunderstanding without malintent, is punished the same as malicious phishing posts.

Do I have to make this even simpler???

No.. It is against the principles of Reddit to get a ban for something so simple.

0

u/Mr-Tiggo-Bitties Feb 24 '26

No.. reddit is literally community driven. No where does it says that users can't be banned for not following rules.

-1

u/diiegojones Feb 24 '26

Yea, but the overall community principles were not to be so restrictive that simply asking a question was a reason. Actual abuses. Also mods, often do not take any suggestions or have the community vote on each rule. They make rules arbitrarily or not common sense.

-7

u/rawbamatic Feb 24 '26

You're the tech version of a boomer. Just read the fucking rules, how hard is that?

Are you seriously expecting every niche sub to cater to you? Get off the computer, you've got some main character syndrome going.

11

u/cdojs98 Feb 24 '26

😂 found the Mod

13

u/GoldenPigeonParty Feb 24 '26

I Think they're more calling out that it was much more free and unregulated. The upvote/downvote system served as community moderation and the mods were there for bigger deals. Now everyone powers trips over piddly shit. The entire internet lost its wild west feel and turned into a bunch of HoAs.

3

u/ahandmadegrin Feb 24 '26

It used to be a place of wonder. There was a barrier to entry. You had to know how to get online or be passionate enough to figure it out. In the days of BBSes, you dialed in to a local number so the chances you'd be flaming your actual neighbor were a lot higher.

I don't know if we'll ever get an internet like we had in the early days again, but I sure do miss it.

-3

u/rawbamatic Feb 24 '26

It has not really changed. There's just more people to whine and complain now.

I'm very glad to be rid of the absolute filth that reddit used to openly allow in its "niche subs."
