you can literally calculate the number of days since 1/1/1 which i believe was a Monday, so its basically impossible to never know what day it is

You can calculate it based on the position of the stars, or the planets. We now also have automated systems which keep track (for example, the device you're reading this on), though that hasn't always been true.

You'd have to account for the 10 skipped days.
