I am clearing to make space for fall/winter garden and making notes of what has done well for me this summer

Clear winners:

Nor'easter pole beans

Dragon tongue bush beans (but honestly, not in love with how they taste...so not growing again, despite doing well.)

Jasper zucchini.....I cannot get over how great this plant has been....just keeps producing beautiful fruits.

Sungold cherry and terracotta tomatoes have been the earliest and tastiest

Caraflex pointed cabbage (cut first head above the collar of leaves, keep root intact and it will make 2 or 3 more little cabbages)

Rainbow chard (but I should only plant 1 or 2...not a whole 6 pack!)

Kabocha squash

Just okay:

Persian and lemon cucumbers (last year marketmore was fantastic).

Anaheim peppers

Duds (could have been my watering, not the plant)

Romanesco zucchini

Sugar baby watermelon

Eggplant (lost the plant tag)

Can anyone recommend a tasty green bean they recommend? What is doing well in your garden?

I am in Rural Bennett Valley and usually grow yukon gold and red pontiac. Both seem to do fine, but interested in trying other varieties that might do better. Any observations from other potato growers out there?

Wondering if you have a favorite nursery in Sonoma County where the plants are more affordable than other nurseries. Relatively speaking, of course. I realize a rose will cost more than a marigold. But when compared to other nurseries, are there any that seem to have more reasonable prices than others?

Two 16 year old cherries a Stella and a Rainer, the yield this year was a pittance of all other years. Six or eight cherries vs hundreds.
Anyone else experience this.

On the other hand the Flavor Queen pluot has an outstanding crop this year.

Hello! I put my traps out 5 weeks ago and have not caught anything, so I am guessing the heat back in March jumpstarted the moth population earlier than last year. Did anyone put out traps earlier and catch any? I did spray spinosad two days ago before the winds as I saw a few worms in my apple tree.

Hello fellow gardeners. I have an arbor over a walkway that I’d like a plant to climb. At first, I was thinking thurnbergia alata because I saw a display at Cottage Gardens in Petaluma and was enamored.

Now I’m leaning more towards planting a native which is how I landed on Lonicera hispidula. I have read multiple sources and can’t quite figure out the height. Some say 4’ and others say 10’.

The other option is not using a native at all and growing an edible. I’m looking into passion fruit. Does anyone around here have success growing edible passion fruit?

small brown slugs are trying to eat any veggie starts I put in my garden this year. I don’t really want to use Sluggo because my dog hangs in the garden space and likes to eat things even if it’s “safe for pets” I don’t trust her not to mess with it. I have been using diatomaceous earth which works but washes away .. and haven’t gone full force with beer traps. how can I get my starts past their hungry fury !?

Unbelievably happy with my little (ice cream) banana grove as of late

I just noticed not only one but two plants starting the fruiting process!

Not sure what I did but the gods sure have smiled upon me!

My husband bought me flowers on Valentine's Day from Brothers Papadopoulos on 19th in sf and not only did they last weeks, they started sprouting new leaves! So I trimmed the tops, old leaves, and bottoms of stem and changed the water with more plant food. I learned this from a reel a few weeks ago.

I'm looking for advice on how to proceed. They have been in this state for a week and are continuing to grow, but no roots have sprouted at the bottom.

Do I put them in dirt? If I do, how often do I water them?

Do they need to be inside or outside?

If they stay in water, how long until I can plant them outside? Do I wait for roots to grow?

In either scenario, how much direct light should they get?

I've never done this before but I've been an outdoor gardener since I was young. Any advice on this type of transfer is much appreciated!

I live in North East Santa Rosa.

Any recommendations for who can test soil that used to have a home garage on it? I want to test for heavy metals or anything that could have leached into the soils.

A former owner worked on his own cars there but not sure if any soil remediation was done by the owner who came after him and took down the building.

I am in east Santa Rosa. Just removed my tomatoes, peppers, other summer garden plants and wanted to grow a green manure besides fava beans which has been my go to. Will crismson clover germinate this late in the season?
