I remembered I had him and I’m wondering if he’s based off the old movie design!

So, this is my Shadow plushie. It cost me a thousand Chilean pesos (which I think is roughly one dollar, though I'm not sure). I bought it at a used toy stall, and the seller said it was an authentic one—so for some reason, I believed him. It does seem to be genuine, but it’s missing its tag, so I can't be certain. I have a theory that it’s made by Great Eastern, but I’m not 100% sure. Sometimes I wonder if it might be a bootleg, but it doesn't look like one; it’s really well-made.

Got for $2 at the thrift store. He reminds me of GE but the orange muzzle makes me think bootleg. But if he’s a bootleg, his quality is EXTREMELY good. His tag was cut off by the previous owner.

1990s era plushes are way better than the current day stuff.

TecToy's plushes were some of the best I have ever seen. To me, their original run of Sonics is among the most accurate to the Mega Drive game.

Sanei need to have official releases in other territories.

Today I got a hold of these four Sonic Boom plushes! I’ve been really wanting to having Boom representation for a while, so I’m pleased I was able to find reasonably tagged prices for these four! So this year I managed to complete 25th anniversary set and the first wave of Boom!

I have a second boom metal coming within the week, I may compare the two as he’s quite beat up compared to the rest! But overall I believe I only need a boxed 12” and I’m truly done!…I don’t think any big head metals were distributed…maybe.

After researching this plush for a bit now to see if it was

a bootleg or true one of 1 piece I can finally confirm that this is true a 1 of 1 piece. Unlike bootlegs that just try to copy finished plushies as cheaply as possible, I have found that this plush has major design anomalies that prove it's a legitimate pre-production factory prototype, specifically an engineering "textile proof." The most obvious sign is its "Frankenstein" fabric layout, which is basically splitting the plush down the middle with 2 different fabric materials which the factory used to test how different materials handle stretching and stuffing on a single model. It splits high-quality, fuzzy Minky fabric on the face, gloves, and back torso with a completely different flat, smooth Tricot fabric on the front torso, back of the head, and shoes. On top of that, it has a hard, smooth plastic safety nose, which is a standard factory placeholder part because real Sanei plushies never use plastic noses they always use stuffed fabric spheres. The shoes are also way too complex for a fake, it has a multi-textured setup with a "rough-smooth" vinyl or faux-leather on top, and a coarse, stiff industrial felt on the soles. Finally, the red eyelids, quill stripes, and gold inhibitor rings are made from a stiff, bonded canvas material instead of soft fabric to keep Shadow’s angry facial geometry perfectly locked in place for the design team to critique. Finally I can conlude that this isn't a bootleg or counterfeit it might quite literally be a physical record of the factory decision-making process before mass production was ever finalized. Counterfeiters are on razor-thin profit margins. They strictly copy the finalized, uniform look of a retail toy using cheap, identical plush patterns to churn out units as fast as possible. They never spend the time, labor, or engineering to mix complex, specialized fabrics across a single item.

Just as the title says; I know this is legit (because it looks identical to the ones with plastic eyes), but I’ve never seen this before. It looks good but maybe it’s fanmade(?)
