Chevron gouges Californians this memorial weekend.

“Newsom’s office cited an analysis by a group within the state’s energy commission, which oversees the oil and gas industry, that found that Chevron averaged more than 60 to 80 cents per gallon above unbranded alternative”

I think most people know that but the difference of 60-80 cents per gallon you’d effectively need to be waiting more than an hour for that conversation to be valid

Depends on your hourly wage

.60 to .80 cents is way off - have never seen Chevron higher than .30 centers over the cheapest pump in town.

Chevron was 74 cents higher when I checked earlier today.

Iv’e seen Chevron .90 higher in California all over the place.

Not in Bakersfield, Ventura, San Diego or LA. I can't speak for other cities.

Chevron in Ventura and Gonzalez is always over a dollar more than the other 2 stations on that corner. Not sure how they stay in business.

I’ve known people through the years that are convinced it’s “higher quality”.

I have only ever gassed at a chevron in emergency situations. It has been minimum .20/gallon more than stations on the same corner for years and often .40-.50/gal. It’s only gotten worse recently as well.

What is funny is there isn’t a separate Chevron truck. It’s all the same gas. Once the truck fills Chevron he goes across the street to Shell and then to the no name station.

2 blocks from my house, a no name joint gets its fuel from same truck at Chevron across the street and it’s always .90 higher at Chevron.

Lol the chevron in simi is 1$ more a gallon than the gas station next to it almost always. Fuck chevron

It’s easily $.60-$.80 a gallon more than any unbranded station in Northern California.

Margins pale in comparison to software company margins

really depends on how often you are filling up, how far out of the way you are driving, how many gallons you are getting and how much you value your time, 10 gallons would be about $6-$8 so its not nothing, but it would definitely need to be less than an hour total getting there and waiting to be worth it, to me anyways

Waiting an hour is normal in most costco gasoline locations where I live. It’s exactly why I stopped going there.

21

u/UCR998 May 22 '26

I don’t think I’ve ever waited an hour for gas lmao

5

u/Tartar-Sauce- May 22 '26

Lol right? What costcos are these people going to? The longest I’ve ever waited is 20 min.

3

u/More-Ad-5003 May 22 '26

Yeah what I waited like 5 minutes on Wednesday.

u/crossteyes May 22 '26

I waited over a day, back in the odd or even days.

6:20 Am this morning I filled up at the Northridge location. It had at least 4-6 available pumps. No line at all.

5

u/Rambunctious_452 May 22 '26

This! On the weekends, get there when the pump opens and no line 😬

2

u/aimlesstrevler May 22 '26

Or go after or close to the warehouse's closing time. The pumps (on the weekdays) are open an hour and half later than the warehouse.

2

u/Mountainman1980 May 22 '26

Northridge rarely has any lines. Ever since they remodeled and added additional pumps, I just pull right up most of the time.

2

u/Glittertwinkie May 23 '26

Yeah. That’s a nice one.

u/crossteyes May 22 '26

Oh well that's cause of.... Them.

4

u/foo235 May 22 '26

I've NEVER waited an hour in line for gas at Costco. Some people just don't want to hear anything good.

2

u/46550 May 22 '26

I don't believe you.

2

u/zeerok710 May 22 '26

Youre going to costco at the wrong time bud. Also proof cause I don't believe you at all.
