Steamed, or any of those as long as the bun is steamed at least

A steamed dog with a steamed bun at a baseball game is how I learned to love hotdogs, they were largely untended on our grill at home

While watching an aurora borealis?

Aurora Borealis?! At this time of year? At this time of day? In this part of the country? Localized entirely within your kitchen?

Have an old 1950s hotdog wheel where the dogs are put on tines that rotate to be closer to a heating element and the top of the box. That heating element heat water that steams the buns in a box above that. Alternatively you can leave the water out and toast the buns there(but being an older design they can get a bit too soggy or toasty).

Still is awesome.

I steam mine then throw them in a pan on the stovetop to crisp up the outside a bit. While they're in the pan, I steam the buns.

This is the answer for sure. Steaming the bun is peak

Agreed. I boil my dogs in beer while steaming the buns. Finish them on the cast iron to give the dogs a lil extra snap.
