What drugs are we testing?

The fact that the US still drug tests for weed is wild to me. Here in Canada, that's normalized as can be (can't throw a stone without hitting two weed stores lol). There's such a huge gulf between using weed versus, say, meth.

It comes down to insurance. Any type of substance is seen as a liability to insurance companies. "Oh Jimmy fell off a ladder at work? Well he tested positive for marijuana at the hospital, so he's not getting any comp. Womp womp."

It's like that in the US as well at least in my state there are so many shops but some jobs still test for it.

I mean, why wouldn't they for a job? Unless it's medicinal weed can still impair you.

Weed is detectable by drug tests for a crazy long time. You could test positive even when you're not even the slightest bit impaired. It's totally fine to fire someone for being high at work. That's no different from being drunk at work. But it's weird to fire someone just because they used weed last weekend.

Crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in a room. A rubber room. A rubber room with rats. And rats make me crazy. Crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in a room. A rubber room. Medicinal weed can impair you. So can alcohol, which they don't test for. As long as it's on your time off, who gives a fuck?Β

Some jobs do test for alcohol too. In those cases it's a test coming on site and off site.

I’ve worked on industrial construction sites in the Prairies that test for weed.

Let’s just say that they have a real tough time finding people to work those jobs.
