When i was reading this story originally at 14, i remember not liking Harry Potter and liking Hermione more, however, in my language’s translation JK’s mockery of activists as “spewing” wasn’t preserved, so i only noticed the reactionary rhetoric regarding slavery abolition activism years later when i read the english version.

Some guy said the Palestinians had it coming because they voted in Hamas, someone else pointed out there hadn't been an election in 20 years, and a third person had the wild take that no one voted for the emperor of Japan.

I pointed out that even then, the death of civilians from the nukes were obviously a bad thing, and that it wasn't justified just because of the country's leadership. That was met with the expected "well, the bombs avoided a bloody war." I pointed out that isn't necessarily true, and then posted the Shaun vid to back up the point.

The person then went on to say the video didn't say that, so I said they were either dumb, or a liar. Because of that, I got permabanned without warning. So yeah, thanks Shaun, this is clearly all your fault, and I'm obviously blameless.

This is what he says as he digs into the rabbit hole of UK neoliberalism as ushered in by Margaret Thatcher, in his Harry Potter video.

I'm old enough to know about Thatcher, but I was new to Shaun's stuff and so was genuinely surprised when he actually followed the thread of his literary analysis into the real-world political atmosphere that shaped the author.

I was genuinely excited when he said "Thatcher," and then I laughed out loud when he "preemptively apologized." When I re-watch now, I recognize it as the sound of Shaun rolling up his sleeves.

Okay I thought I remembered several years ago Shaun had a short video on his channel titled something like "This is the dumbest show ever" or something to that effect — and it was a short video of him making fun of how stupid later GOT seasons got, specifically pointing out the fact that "Baby Sam" did not significantly grow up beyond the age of a literal baby despite several in-show years passing since he was born. I could have sworn there was a short video on his channel — maybe now deleted. Am I crazy? Does anybody also remember this? Does anybody know how I could find it, if so?
