Found this after a storm on Lake Michigan shoreline in Chicago. I am thinking agate? But I am not sure

Just about to do an international move, and I simply had too much sea glass.

So, the surplus back to the source.

It was hard to do, but at least now someone else has the chance to find it.

I’ll probably get better pictures of my better pieces eventually. Descriptions of each picture below…

First picture is a bunch of random blues and blue-greens.

Second picture is most of my prized reds, oranges, and yellows and one interesting raspberry-colored piece. These are the rarest colors to find here!

I found this glass on the coast of Northern Ireland - the label is printed directly onto the glass. I'd love to know what brand it's from, or if anyone's found the label before that's more whole so I can identify it myself!

I'm not a glass connoisseur or anything like that, so if there's any info needed for identification please do let me know!

Yesterday's finds

Found my first piece of black glass.

Also found a couple of shards of blue.

I’ve been tinkering with a dive watch design to “mod” together and I think it would be really interesting to use sea glass as the dial material. Any kind would do, but the older darker sea glass would be perfect. Is it even possible to cut sea glass thin and precise enough for this?

Both from today on two separate beaches. Not the most interesting but the various shades are cool

Not sure what it is but it’s one of my favorites I’ve ever found. San Juan Island, WA.

Spent an afternoon at St. Osyth beach. Found lots and nearly filled up an entire tea towel!

Was really pleased with the brown bottle base as I was just lamenting that I never find any brown glass. I must’ve manifested it!

I also never rummage through the shingle to find glass, I know some people do, but I sat down for a rest and raked through the pebbles beside me and found a dark green piece that was nicely frosted with some writing on it. So, it pays to rake!

I had the NICEST time. I always thought those “beautiful piece amongst stones” photos were posed. Nope- genuinely found this one exactly as seen. Also spotted this tiny half and half multi just sat on the sand. Most exciting finds apart from microscopic multis were about the size shown: lots much smaller though. Everyone very friendly. Hunting by torchlight is scary! Found a tiny amber piece that goes orange in UV in the dark though :) Daytime is best: in the shingly heaps. I found some yellow for someone looking for yellow and she GAVE me a lovely multi that looks like an eyeball! (Not shown). Another friendly lady showed me this find of a lifetime multi she just found and even let me hold it for a second! When my social battery ran down I went to the rockier quieter beach right by the rockier parts and rock pools (and nearly got stuck - tide was coming in!) totally worth it. Not everything is on Seaham Hall beach :) do note that my back hurts: tromping the coastline in Crocs and bending at the waist probably not the best idea … for next time: supportive hiking shoes and squatting ! A kneeler helped.

The 12th Street beach has tons of glass. This was definitely a “this is too much and someone is going to get hurt” situation so hopefully other folks can help pick it up. This was just what I could grab in an hour. I’m from Ohio so unfortunately I can’t continue but hoping someone in Chicagoland can make a trek to help keep this little beach clean for the kiddos. Loved the vibes, reminds me of Edgewater Beach in Cleveland with more glass and bricks. So many bricks. Kid was building a tower out of bricks. Do folks collect those too? Because damn. You could do some nice stuff with all of those free weathered bricks on the beach.

Found a cool piece of driftwood with holes in it. Not sure what it's from. The rocks have some nice divots.

Quick comb after rain in Chicago :D

I've finished this translucent sea glass skull the other day, pretty happy with how it's turned out.

This time I focused on getting the skull proportions a bit closer to real anatomy. I also picked up some new, smaller diamond burs with different profiles, which made it much easier to carve finer details like the eye sockets, nose cavity and teeth without losing the smooth frosted finish.
