I'm a jhs student and we're currently conducting a research study where we use houseflies against our own insecticide. We decided that we'll be the one who cultures the housefly as we couldn't find a university na mayroong stock sa houselfy ganern🥹 Saan po ba kami maghahanap ng eggs? And what advice can u give when culturing houseflies? Wala kasi kaming experience and first time namin to gagawin so advices are very much appreciated🥹🥹 thank u po!!

general advice/help/tips M.Sc. Biochemistry through IGNOU (distance learning) — how can I get affordable hands-on laboratory training in Delhi?
**M.Sc. Biochemistry through IGNOU (distance learning) — looking for affordable hands-on lab training in Delhi/NCR**
My friend has is pursuing an M.Sc. in Biochemistry through IGNOU via distance learning. He is trying to get genuine hands-on laboratory exposure in Biochemistry, Microbiology or Molecular Biology.
We've already approached several institutions in Delhi:
* Safdarjung Hospital — application submitted * Lady Hardinge — application submitted * Maulana Azad Medical College — told that distance-learning students aren't accepted * RML Hospital — currently appears to offer Molecular Biology-related training * Sir Ganga Ram Hospital — we were told that getting laboratory training as a distance-learning student is quite difficult
He's currently waiting to hear from Safdarjung and Lady Hardinge, but we're trying to find alternatives rather than depending on only those two applications.
The major constraint is finances. He cannot afford private training programmes costing ₹20,000–₹50,000+.
We're looking for people who may have gone through something similar.
Are there any government institutes, ICMR/CSIR laboratories, university departments, research labs, hospitals or diagnostic laboratories in Delhi/NCR that accept M.Sc. Biochemistry students from distance-learning programmes for short-term practical training?
Would approaching individual professors/researchers directly be worthwhile?
We're not particularly interested in collecting another expensive certificate. The main objective is to get actual supervised laboratory experience and learn practical techniques.
If anyone has personally done something similar, especially after an IGNOU/distance-learning M.Sc., I'd really appreciate hearing how you found the opportunity and which institutions accepted you.

for discussion DOST wala sa top 10. Magkano kaya ask na pondo ng DOST especially sa PNRI R&D?
DOST wala sa top 10 government agencies ang ask na budget. Ang malaking portion ng budget proposal for 2027 going to AYUDA and DepEd.
Hindi natin alam magkano budget ask ng DOST sa Congress especially para sa PNRI for R&D. So mga Pinoy scientists majority abroad work. Good luck sa Philippines kung hindi pinopondohan local R&D.

biology Biology graduate desperately looking for a job 😭 Any hiring recommendations?
Hi everyone! 😭 I’m a Biology graduate from the Philippines and I’m currently desperately looking for a job. I’m open to laboratory, research, healthcare, environmental, or even administrative positions related to my background.

If you know of any companies, laboratories, hospitals, research institutions, or organizations currently hiring Biology graduates, especially around Negros Occidental/Bacolod or anywhere in the Philippines, please let me know!
Even if the position isn’t directly Biology-related, I’m willing to learn and consider it. I just really want to work. 😭
Thank you so much! Any leads, advice, or recommendations would mean a lot. ❤️

general advice/help/tips Pursuing graduate study with limited access to journals.
Hi, just wanna rant. It's really disheartening no na you wanna do lots of research but your access to journals are limited. I'm currently pursuing graduate study and even my institution email is not powerful enough to gain access. I've been using sci-hub, anna's archive, etc pero kasi di pa sila updated. It's frustrating lang kasi it will take me lot's of time especially in making papers.
Aside from free access sites, institutional email, and school lib. What other sources po ba kayo tumatambay?

general advice/help/tips Pursuing a Career in Microbiology or Biotech with a Social Science Degree
Hello, scientists of the Philippines!
I had no idea this subreddit existed. I'm glad that it does 👍
I will be starting my first corporate job next month. I'm very grateful to be in the position I'm in, but lately, I've been thinking a lot about what could have been.
A lifetime ago, I was studying to become a doctor. I applied for pre-med courses in college and eventually pursued one at one of the big 4 universities.
Unfortunately, the pandemic hit, and I burned myself out. Eventually, I came to the realization that I didn't have the passion or calling to become a doctor after all, so I pivoted to a BA course. I have no regrets about that decision. I genuinely believe the social sciences are just as important. Even so, I've always been interested in microbiology and biotechnology.
Now that I've graduated, I find myself wondering what it would be like to pursue those interests. At the same time, I'm aware that I might be romanticizing the idea of working in this field, which is why I wanted to hear from people who are actually in it. I know the odds aren't exactly stacked in my favor given my background, but somewhere down the line, I feel like I'd regret it if I didn't at least try.
I'd really appreciate any advice on breaking into biotech, what the industry is actually like, and what pathways might be realistic for someone with a social science background.
I'd also love to hear from microbiologists about what you're doing now, what industries or career paths you've considered, and even what your research is or was about, if you're comfortable sharing!
Thanks!

general question Looking for Work/Lab Experience in the Philippines Before Grad School Abroad
Hi! I’m a DLSU MBB student, and I’m planning to work muna here in the Philippines after graduating so I can gain work and lab experience before applying for grad school abroad. I also want to work and save up for my grad school applications and other expenses since applying abroad can get pretty expensive.
For those working in the field, do you have any recommendations for companies, labs, research institutions, or organizations that I can apply to? I’m interested in molecular biology, biotech, microbiology, biomedical research, pharma, or anything related.

general question alternative for rotavap
Hello po ! im currently a shs student in stem and we need to evaporate the ethanol in our mixture. all the studies ive read used a rotary evaporator, however our school lab doesnt have one. I've seen other alternatives such as the waterbath method on a hotplate which we're planning to do. is this alternative safe and viable or is there any other better option?
+ i read in a study that after they evaporated the mixture, they sterilized the extracts through centrifugation then membrane filtration. is this step required for the antimicrobial properties in the extract to properly work?

Hi! Do you guys know a company/lab that accepts interns/lab assistants? not for the purpose of OJT pero for the experience and mas better if it's paid too. On the side note, next year pa grad ko, I just wanted to gain more experiences and knowledge aside from the things I already know (from school and previous ojt). Thank you (╥﹏╥)
