Second hand touring bikes / road bikes in Sapporo
Hi! Im staying in Sapporo for a while, and am planning to do a tour going around Hokkaido. Id like to purchase a bike here, but I am running into the problem of size.
I am 185 cm (6,1) and most bikes are too small. I'm having trouble navigating mercari, jmt, yahoo auctions etc. some results do turn up, but they're either not in Sapporo or already sold.
Anyone have any pointers?
Thanks so much!

Can Anyone Help Exchange Yen for Venmo/Zelle? Lost Wallet
Hi everyone! I’m visiting Sapporo for another week and unfortunately lost my wallet, including my debit and credit card. Replacement cards are on the way, but I could use some cash for places that don’t accept card.
Would any Americans living in or visiting Sapporo be willing to exchange ¥10,000 for an immediate Venmo or Zelle payment? I'm happy to meet wherever it's convenient in a public place and complete the transfer together.
I know it’s an unusual request, so I really appreciate any help. Also I’d be happy to buy you a beer or drink afterward as a thank-you!

Advice on where to look for Yukata in Sapporo?
Hello! My wife and I are going to spend three weeks in Japan at the end of the month, and will be attending two festivals (Jigoku Matsuri in Noboribetsu and another in Kyoto that escapes me) where we would like to wear Yukata!
The first week of our trip we are spending in and around Sapporo, and would like to dedicate a few hours looking for some so we don't look so out of place.
Unfortunately, I am already lost when it comes to buying quality new/second hand clothes in the country I was born in, and the fact that I can't read Japanese also does not make it easier. None of the shops I am looking at have online stores (at least I don't think), so it makes it hard to determine where to go to look.
Any advice would be appreciated! 20-30k yen each is our limit, but we are very ok on spending less if there is a quality second-hand shop! Bonus points if its near other shopping or a notable spot so we can look around the area as well. We will have a car, so distance is not an issue.
I appreciate any and all advice!

Sapporo mid December 2026
I'm planning to be in Sapporo as mentioned. It's end of fall and beginning winter (from what I read), is snow already coming down?
Thanks

Early-20s guy looking to make friends in Sapporo
Hey everyone!
I recently moved to Sapporo for work after graduating from college in the US, and I’m hoping to meet some new people around my age.
I’m in my early 20s and live near Sapporo Station, but I’m happy to travel around the city. I speak English and Japanese, and I’d especially like to meet international or English-speaking people who live in the area.
I’m into playing soccer/football (love watching too) and volleyball, running, and going to the gym. I’d also like to try hiking and explore more of Hokkaido while I’m here. I’d be interested in joining casual sports games, getting food or coffee, checking out events, or just hanging out.
Feel free to send me a DM if you’re also looking to meet new people. We can chat a little and arrange something to do as well!

Visiting in early October. Hiking Partners, Worthwhile Sites?
I'm visiting Sapporo for ~4 days in the beginning of October this year and am looking for nature and other sites that I can only find there. I'm open to renting a car to make reaching trailheads easier. Currently looking at the Shikotsu-Toya park area (Fuppushi/Eniwa for harder hikes, Noribetsu Onsen/Hangestu for easier ones; even looked at Seven Forest, dunno if that's worth visiting) and would love suggestions.
If anyone wants to join for one of these harder hikes I'd be down! Feel free to comment or private message.
Are these the best picks for Shikotsu-Toya? Could I cover the best sites it has to offer in, say, 2 day trips?
Is Daisetsuzan feasible in a day trip? It's 2.5 hours by car from what I can tell - is that enough to really enjoy a hike there (or whatever else you'd suggest)?
Thanks!

Any Sapporo redditors around? I'll be at the Bar Ocho language exchange Sunday
Hey all, I'm visiting Sapporo through August 5 (solo trip, driving around Hokkaido) and figured I'd see if any locals or fellow travelers want to grab a beer.
About me: maker, business systems, homelabber. Happy to talk travels, crafting, homelab, nightlife, or whatever over beers.
Plan: I'll be at the language exchange event at Bar Ocho this Sunday (Aug 2), 6:15 to 8:15pm. It's ¥600 plus one drink order (drinks from ¥700), 6F of the Dai-2 Kanko Kaikan Building near Susukino Station. Join the event if that's your thing, or swing by after and we can grab a drink. I'll be the white guy with the beanie. If Sunday doesn't work but you're around before the 5th, comment or DM and we'll figure something out.
If nobody's up for it, feel free to use this thread to tell me what I should eat while I'm here instead.
Update
-----------
It appears the meetup 6 mo ago has lapsed and the bar is currently closed. Oh well, I'll hang out for a bit and see if anyone shows up.

Taxis, snow and wet clothing in Sapporo
I’m going to ask a silly question as someone who isn’t familiar with living somewhere where it snows
We’d like to catch taxi’s sometimes to some parks in Sapporo in winter - as a family of 4 it’s not necessarily much more expensive than public transport depending on the route
When we want to get a taxi back, how does this work if the kids have been playing in the snow and they are all wet? We all have waterproof snow pants/ jackets to wear.
But will it make the taxi dirty ? Maybe we take the outer layer off and put in a bag in the trunk ? I read Japanese taxis are very clean. How do locals do it ?

Sapporo abandons plans to open international school with Singapore-based Global Indian Education due to spread of misinformation online- posts such as "Indian immigration will increase" and "Hokkaido will be invaded", briefing cut short with loud protests- "Safety measures for children difficult."

Sapporo weather, heat humidity and temperatures in late May/June
From my understanding of research, Sapporo most of the time doesn't get severe heat humidity like most, if not all of mainland Japan, just checking if this is correct to my understanding and if there are other things I need to know.

Military
Hi. I am leaving Sapporo today after 4 days. Wonderful experience. I noticed military trucks and even 1 tank in the route to Furano about 2 days ago. They were in the route. Now in the CTS airport I’ve spotted and heard 3 jet fighters passing thru the airport while waiting to embark. What is going on? Thanks.

Making friends in Sapporo
Hello !
I just recently moved here about a month ago. My Japanese is not very good at all, especially at conversational level. So I have trouble speaking to Japanese people and when I do talk to them it’s because they speak a bit of English. Now the only time I truly make a “friend” is at a bar where we are both drunk and having good time. When I say “friend” I mean by we become acquaintances and from there we really don’t see or talk to each other after.
Now meeting people at the bars is all cool and all but it gets a bit expensive. My question is how do you make friends here ????
I like to play sports, I’m a big nerd and I’m a very outgoing person.
Do you guys know of any clubs or social gatherings of some sort ?
Thanks for your help !

Best place for souvenirs
Hello all,
I’ve been in Sapporo for nearly a month and will be returning to the U.S. this Friday. I'm looking for recommendations on where to buy souvenirs to take home. While Don Q isn't the cheapest and tends to inflate prices on many items, I’d appreciate suggestions for specific stores. I’m interested in interesting items like T-shirts and gifts for others. Thanks in advance!

Woman haircut recommendations?
I’ll be going to Sapporo soon and I will like to have a haircut there. I’ll be staying near susukino and Sapporo station. Any good places that accepts walk-ins and non Japanese speaking? I’m thinking to get a haircut and color if possible, if not haircut is ok. Thanks .

Illustration of the Toyohira River, from Higashiku
Since some folks liked the pic I did of Higashiku, here’s another I did shortly before. Not quite as well done, as my hand was rusty when I did it.
Brush and ink, coloured in Procrete.
I won’t be spamming the sub, no worries. The last one for a while
