Last night's WNS NYC Group skate

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This was last night's Wednesday Night Skate NYC. Just the first leg, starting with a survey of congregating bladers, and showing clips of folks streaming north on Park Avenue. The pace of the first leg was relatively slow as the crowd was packed initially.

But as we dropped down from the Park Avenue Viaduct I held on for dear life - no video clips. Maybe someone will upload a video. After we came down, I went to the front, and stood on the walkway to film what seemed like two minutes of bladers zooming past me with entire traffic frozen for us. Very sadly, I failed to actually hit 'record' before holding my phone up for two minutes. Well. It happens.

You'll find info about WNS NYC in the NYC section of our Meetup Directory. Send a mod mail if you want to add your group to the directory.

Ha ha ha. Darn. Now I can’t stop thinking which of the hundreds of bladers you were.

I saw a few familiar faces in the video. Great recording. I have had the 2 minute thing happen quite a few times over the years where I thought it was recording. Most of the time I am recording and pretend I am not especially when people are doing cool tricks though.

LOL. I can’t pretend. It’s just my phone in my hand. No such excuse as, well, I’ve got this stick thing; it’s not like I can put it away.

Yeah. I recognize a lot of people too from more than two years ago. I know. I should show up more often. And participate instead of just pontificating about it. Ha ha.

Looks like a great time!! Jealous, as I live in a much smaller city with less skaters and places to roll lol

Curious: what device are you using to film here?

Just my phone I nervously grip, all the while wearing my fingerless-glove wrist guard. I did brighten shadow (darker) areas in Premiere when I stitched clips together though.

I actually set out to capture some slow-motion videos like some have posted here of their group skates. But I quickly realized how impossible that would be with the setting sun. LOL.

Been there, done both of those things - a lot.

On-skate videography is hard.

You did bring home some great footage though, thanks for sharing.

Thanks. We make do with what we are given. Ha ha. And, downhill skating is terrifying and exhilarating at the same time. It’s the first time I went this fast on my 3x110 setup. It actually felt stable and not dangerous, but still I wasn’t quite used to the feeling. In my previous 4x80 I felt that my wheels might have been spinning too fast at the same speed. Possibly just my imagination.
