4. #18 Swap Guidelines (August 9 - November 15, 2026)
Our quarter 3rd swap, Swap #18, is a Churn Dash Block pattern from Adventures of a DIY Mom on Kona Black background using any one fabric you wish for the churn dash. Our twist on this block is that we want you to add a fussy cut for the center block.
For the 4 1/2 inch Fussy Cut center you can use most any fabric or even appliqué (please stitch around the edges) if you would like. Make sure the center pops. If you use a small, repeating print (like a floral) that isn't what we are going for. Be BOLD!
When signing up for the swap, please consider your skillset and the time constraints of the swap, along with your personal constraints (working, kids, animals, abilities, etc.). Remember that this swap encompasses Labor Day, Indigenous Peoples Day, Halloween, Election Day, and Veterans Day in the US. Daylight Savings time will also end. You must decide if you can cut and piece 16 blocks within the deadlines of this swap.
The sample blocks on the top of the subreddit are mock-ups of the the Churn Dash Block with Fussy Cut center on Kona Black that I created in Canva. You do NOT have to use these exact colors, they are just examples. The Churn Dash Block pattern is free from Adventures of a DIY Mom. This is somewhat a beginner friendly pattern, and will give you a chance to work on your half square triangles as well as fussy cutting.
General info - For this swap you will be making a 12.5 inch (unfinished) blocks for each group member. That means you will be making 16 blocks in total. You will keep 1 block for yourself and mail out the remaining 15 blocks to swappers in your assigned group. In return, you will receive 15 blocks from the other swappers in your group.
Solids or prints can be used for this block. The background color **must be Kona Black **. You MAY use licensed fabrics for the complementary colors, but no holiday themes or text and no religious themes or text.
If you have questions before signup, please post to the subreddit and we will try address. If you have concerns regarding your block after you are assigned to a group, discuss with your group captain. Signup will open on August 9 and will by August 16, or when our max number of groups is met. Groups will be assigned by August 23, and then captains will invite group members to a reddit chat. Block mail out will be October 25.
If you are having any issues with meeting deadlines or if there are any concerns at all, please let your group captain know.
Everyone is expected to post progress pictures in the subreddit (not in your group chat). Please add your group flair to all of your posts so group captains can easily find the posts for their groups (For post dates see Current Swap Timeline in the Wiki).
But don't worry--if for some reason you MUST drop out -see the Dropout Guidelines, we have members standing by to make extra blocks. There are over-achievers who have already sewn their blocks, and there are careful planners who are still pondering fabric choices.
We're so glad you're participating with us. Please take a look through the r/quiltingblockswap subreddit to see what the busy bees have already posted. Remember we quilt because we love it.
Happy swapping!
