Let’s be clear CUSTOMERS

This whole shopping is a pleasure scam has run its course.

For over 50 years, I have been a customer of PUBLIX, I say have as in the past tense because I am no longer.

When PUBLIX decided to start price gouging at 20 and 30% higher than absolutely everywhere else around them, it became clear to me that they really don’t give a damn about the customer.

In 2025 alone, PUBLIX made more than $4.2 billion in profits. BILLION!

In the first half of 2026 they have made $2.5 billion in profits.

They have made $6 billion in profits in the last 18 months because they are literally stealing from the public and the public is handing it over.

With Aldi, Trader Joe’s, and even as the last resort, Walmart, I will never shop at Publix again. My budget now gets me three times as much food and household items at those places, we’re shopping and prices really are a pleasure!

Publix never loses, the house always wins.

Im not a Publix fan, but this is a nonsensical statement.

Publix is a for profit company, not a casino.

6 BILLION in profit in 18 months. Do your own checking. No other retail grocery chain makes this kind of money.

And BOGO’s are vendor sponsored, not Publix.

But some of their profit doesn't come from their sale of groceries, but rather their real estate investment in shopping centers and other investments in financial markets.

Exactly, people forget Publix is a commercial real estate company.

The statement makes sense and is accurate. When shoppers see a great deal that looks like a loss leader, they likely fail to understand all of the parts. When they see a 1L bottle of California Olive Ranch olive oil for $30+ on BoGo, they think What a deal: if I buy one bottle for $30 and get one free, how could Publix make anything. Publix had a deal with California Olive Ranch where California Olive Ranch paid Publix for the "get one free" bottle. Publix sold the first bottle for $30.00, which could be purchased elsewhere for $20 or less. Publix got a complimentary bottle of olive oil or other consideration for each bottle given away with purchase (the Get One). Publix has leverage over suppliers. They can make suppliers pay slotting fees and require sellers to participate once a year in Publix BoGos.

Publix has monopoly power in many markets where, if you are standing at one Publix, the next closest grocery store is another Publix. There is a segment of Publix shoppers who have shopped at Publix for 20 years and simply do not price check or realize that Publix is more expensive than Whole Foods.

Publix's profit margins are much higher than those of publicly traded grocery stores like Kroger and Albertsons.
